Excitement is mounting as the 17th annual Simxa Shabbaton is approaching. Scheduled to take place over the Thanksgiving weekend in Pasadena, CA, the Shabbaton attracts hundreds of participants from California and beyond, many of them Russian speakers.
The inspiring lectures by world class speakers are conducted in both English and Russian. Families look forward to a fun-filled children’s program, which will include ice skating and bowling this year.
Gourmet glatt kosher meals will be served throughout the retreat, beginning with a sushi reception at check in and culminating with a Mexican Fajita Buffet Melaveh Malka.
The program will also include outings into the beautiful and picturesque gardens of Pasadena with discussions on the Miracle of Creation, this year’s retreat theme. On Motzei Shabbos, the participants will also be treated to a delightful live Kleizmer concert by the famous orchestra of Leo Chelyapov.
This year, David Weiss, a popular author, speaker, and award-winning screenwriter, will serve as the Master of Ceremonies. The panel of speakers will include Rabbi Yechezkel Rapoport, co-founder and director of Chabad of Shoreline, WA; Rabbi Tzvi Freeman, an author and senior editor at Chabad.org; Rabbi Bentzion Pil, founder of the Schneerson Center and spiritual leader of the Russian Jewish community of San Francisco; Rabbi Aryeh Katzin, director of Russian American Jewish Experience (RAJE) and principal of Sinai Academy in New York; Rabbi Reuven Wolf, founder and program director of Maayon Yisroel Chassidic Center in Los Angeles; Rabbi Asher Brander, a popular author, founder and Rav of LINK Intercommunity Kollel in Los Angeles; Rabbi Gershon Schusterman, a rabbi, mashpiah, and lecturer in Los Angeles; as well as Rabbi Shimon Raichik, Mora d’asra and Rav to the Los Angeles community and the Rav of Congregation Levi Yitzchak.
There will also be several special programs, lectures, and discussions by Batya Brander, Nomi Freeman, Ora Rapoport, Mattie Pil, Mila Raigorodsky, Chana Rochel Schusterman, and a concert for women by the popular performing artist and poetess, Katya Kapelnikova.
In addition, the Shabbaton will offer special programs and discussions, professional networking, live entertainment, and nature and sightseeing tours. As always, the Simxa Shabbaton promises to be a source of inspiration for its participants.
