Russian Jewish businessman Mikhail Lanin, a member of the Jewish community in his hometown of Saratov, was shot dead near the southern French resort city of Nice.
French police found airplane tickets on a person that was traveling with him, indicating they were both on the way to the airport in Nice for the flight to Samara via Moscow.
“Police got in touch with Lanin’s son via Interpol and he has identified his father,” Russia’s Consul General in Marseilles Yury Gribkov told RIA Novosti.
Lanin was the general director of Saratovstroisteklo, manufacturers of sheet float glass.
COLlive was told he had a close friendship with Saratov Shliach and Chief Rabbi Yakov Kubichek and donated to the Ohr Avner Chabad school there.
Shliach Rabbi Mendel Azimov of Beth Lubavitch of Paris is involved with the effort to release Lanin’s body from the morgue and bring it to a Jewish burial.
