As the summer comes to an end, and our children are settling into their school year, our minds inevitably shift to the month of Tishrei.
How fortunate are we to be able to live right here, in the Daled Amos of 770.
For centuries, Chassidim dreamed for an entire year of the opportunity to spend Tishrei with the Rebbe.
To be in the presence of such kedusha during the Yomim Tovim was something that left Chassidim rejuvenated, and inspired them for the entire year ahead.
Every year, thousands of the “Rebbe’s guests” come from all over the world to spend Tishrei in Crown Heights.
As residents of Crown Heights, it is upon each and every one of us to treat the Rebbe’s guests as our own, and see to it they are cared for.
For years, Reb Moshe Rubashkin literally opened his house to hundreds of bochurim, offering them lodging and food throughout the month of Tishrei.
“Moshe Rubashkin’s Sukkah,” as it has come to be known, likely the largest in the entire Crown Heights, offers “around the clock” food and beverage, as well as ongoing Farbrengens and shiurim to thousands of the Rebbe’s guests.
Following the passing of his father, Reb Avraham Aharon Rubashkin OBM, this undertaking assumed the name “Avraham Avinu’s tent of Crown Heights”.
Avraham Avinu was known to have an “open door” policy, where guests from far and wide were and felt welcome.
It is our job to offer this same comfort to the thousands of guests who descend upon Crown Heights, indeed: “The Rebbe’s Guests,” and make sure they feel truly welcome and cared for.
This year is forecasted to be the largest ever, with more guests than ever before planning their voyages to the “Rabbe’s Daled Amos.”
As a community, we must ensure they are truly cared for, in a way that is appropriate for Shnas Hakhel, and consistent with ”וְלֹא יֵרָאֶה אֶת פְּנֵי ה רֵיקָם”.
