The Jewish community in Rostov-on-don in Russia is gearing p to welcome visitors from around the world for the 100th yartzeit of the Rebbe Rashab.
With 30 days left to the milestone, extensive renovations are being conducted at the Ohel resting place of the fifth Chabad Rebbe, Rabbi Sholom DovBer Schneersohn (1860-1920), and in the local historic shul.
Rostov’s Shliach Rabbi Chaim Danzinger has been meeting government officials to plan the many who are planning to visit from Israel, United States, Canada, England, France, and South Africa.
He said that a large tent will be set up near the Jewish cemetery and the Rebbe Rashab’s Ohel to accommodate the crowd commemorating the yartzeit on Beis Nissan.
Events surrounding Beis Nisan are planned to begin on Thursday and include Shabbos (March 26-29, 2020).
The program will include visiting the Rebbe Rashab’s house, his Mikvah, the historic Cantonist Shul and Zmievskaya Balka Memorial Site known as Russia’s Babi Yar.
The main program will be attended by Russia’s Chief Rabbi Berel Lazar, Vice Chairman of Merkos L’inyonei Chinuch Rabbi Moshe Kotlarsky, Bnei Brak’s Chief Rabbi Aizik Landa, Cholon’s Chief Rabbi Yochanan Gurary and Rabbi Yitzchak Kogan of Moscow.
They will be joined those who have already announced that they will be joining, among them Rabbi Leibel Schapiro with the bochurim of the Chabad Yeshiva in Miami, and Rabbi Sholom Ber Lipskar and members of The Shul of Bal Harbour in Florida. Both will be addressing the farbrengen.
The guest speaker at the main Beis Nisan farbrengen to be held in the Vertol Expo hall with the guests and members of the Jewish community in Rostov will be Rabbi YY Jacobson, the world-renowned speaker and dean of TheYeshiva.net.
Rostov’s Shliach Rabbi Chaim Danzinger is reminding the public that a visa is required to enter Russian and can take 2 weeks or more to arrange. He recommends beginning planning now for the dates 1-4 Nissan (March 26-29).
He says there are also limited hotels within walking distance so it would be best to reserve right away.
