Rebbetzin Rochel Simpson, wife of Rabbi Sholom Mendel Simpson who served as the Rebbe’s Mazkir, passed away on Shabbos morning, 16 Adar, 5775.
She was 81.
Rebbetzin Simpson was born in Riga, Latvia, to Rabbi and Rebbetzin Mordechai Dov Teleshevsky. When she was 3 years old, her family moved to Helsinki, Finland, where her father served as a shochet and chazzan.
Despite being provided a livelihood, her parents were bothered that there was no future for authentic Jewish education in Finland and therefore decided to leave. They arrived in the United States in 1948 and settled in Brooklyn.
She is survived by her husband Rabbi Sholom Mendel Simpson and her children Rabbi Yossi Simpson (Crown Heights), Mrs. Faigy Wilshansky (Crown Heights), Mrs. Krainy Borenstein (Crown Heights), Rabbi Avremi Simpson (Crown Heights), Rabbi Ari Simpson (Crown Heights), Mrs. Mashie Preger (Crown Heights) and Rabbi Dovid Simpson (Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn).
She is also survived by her sister Mrs. Chana Popack (Crown Heights).
The Levaya will take place tomorrow Sunday leaving Shomrei Hadas in Boro Park at 11:00 am and passing by 770 at 11:45 am.

I knew Rebbetzin Simpson because her husband Rabbi Simpson (may he be healthy and prosperous for many years to come) was kind enough to invite me over his home for Shabbos meals. I attended the Brighton Beach shul from 2007-2010 and was privileged to have been over the Simpson home. Rebbetzin Simpson was so sweet and hospitable. I do not recall her ever with a sad face actually – always and I mean always a smile, a warm, really warm smile for everyone.
She was totally .. its called IBERGEGEBEN is what it is yes that’s the word, to her kids, husband and the many that ventured to brighton either on tahalucha or whatever was need at Oceanview Jewish Center as the rabbi’s rebetzin!
She will be sorely missed!
Her house was always an open home for all those that needed company, and and a good friend, Never turning anyone down, always full of shabbos guests in Brighton Beach with that lovely smile and and a heart for of love
