Rebbetzin Alta Chaya Hirschsprung, wife of former Chief Rabbi of Montreal Rabbi Pinchas Hirschsprung obm, passed away today, Sunday, Adar 10, 5772.
She was 88.
Rebbetzin Hirschsprung was the wife of the Chief Rabbi of Montreal, who was known for his deep admiration for the Lubavitcher Rebbe, who held frequent discussions with the Rebbe on Torah learning. Rabbi Hirschsprung also frequently praised the work of Shluchim in Montreal and around the world.
Rabbi and Rebbetzin Hirschsprung were frequent participants of the global Yarchei Kallah, a Torah gathering hosted by Camp Gan Israel in Parksville, NY.
The levaya will take place today, Sunday, at 3:00 pm leaving from Chesed Shel Emes, 935 Beaumont Ave., Montreal, QC H3N 1W3. At 3:30 pm the Levaya will pass Bais Yaakov, 1750 Glendale.

The summer of 1949 our family rented a cottage, owned by her parents, in Prefontaine, P.Q., Canada; a resort town north of Montreal. The Rebbitsen, the Rav & daughter were there too. What an elegent & gracious lady!

I had once the z’chus to drive the the Hirshspung family back from Yarchei Kalla @ CGI NY. She was such a nice lady, very polite. Good memories of that trip.
She will be missed.

Rabbi Hirschsprung was also the official rosh yeshiva of 770 after rabbi pikarsky passed away.

Remember her dedication to the the Yeshiva Tochei Temimim in montreal and how she came every day to pick up her husband the Gaon Reb Pinchas ZAL with such a smile and happiness. Rabbi Hirschrung would wait on the top step of the yeshiva steps and the Rebetzin would drive up wait patiently while we would talk in learning with him while shmusing in learning and walking him to the car and he would talk in learning till he closed the door always with a chayus!!!!!.
