A regular-looking velvet Challah cover for the Shabbos table is being sold this week by Nshei Ubnos Chabad in Israel, as “a unique one time opportunity.”
The price: $2,500.
If you’re wondering why the high price, you will have to take a close look at the two clusters of green grapes on both sides of an image of Jerusalem and in it the Beis Hamikdash.
The green threads are woven with threads of material that were once used by the 6th Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneersohn, said Mrs. Devorah Butman, Chairman of the Nshei Chabad Woman’s organization.
Butman told COLlive.com the piece of material was given by Rebbetzin Nechama Dina Schneersohn, wife of the Frierdiker Rebbe, as a gift to Rabbi Sholom Chaskind, a Chossid who serviced the Rebbe’s household and later lived in Tel Aviv.
Two Challah covers woven with those threads are up for sale for $2500 (in a single payment or up to 10 payments).
“We have no doubt that this will not only adorn your Shabbos table but will bring light and many Brochos to you,” Mrs. Butman said appealing to Chassidim in the U.S. who might be interested in purchasing the special items.
