Following the fatal car crash of renowned melamed, Reb Reuven Chaim Biller, z”l, on the 7th of Tamuz, 5778 (June 20, 2018), the kehilah is uniting in full support for his family. Reb Biller is survived by his wife (now widow) and eight children, the youngest of whom is four years old. He was the head counselor of Pupa Camp for the past fifteen years, and previously served as a cheder rebbe in Flatbush, Skver, Pupa and other institutions.
Hundreds gathered for Reb Biller’s levaya, and poured into the Biller home for the shiva. Visitors shared thousands of heartfelt personal stories about Reb Biller’s influence as a teacher and a well-respected, active community member. Loved ones and neighbors alike continue to bring food, assist with the children, and offer household help during the aftermath of the tragic loss.
The wider community takes into account not only that Reb Biller’s widow, daughters, and sons are suffering emotionally, but that they also face financial hardship without their husband and father’s means of support. An emergency double-matching fund for the Biller mother and the children is now set up, in order to enable the Billers to move through their mourning without the stress of financial burden. “We really need the community,” appeals Rebbetzin Biller.
