When Rabbi Ronnie Fine received a call from Montreal’s popular CJAD news talk radio station, he didn’t expect himself to be the subject of the interview.
The radio host Dan Delmar informed him that he has been voted in by listeners as one of the “Favorite Montrealers of 2015.”
Receiving the top votes the Mayor Denis Coderre and Rabbi Fine was tied with professional ice hockey defenceman for the Montreal Canadiens P. K. Subban.
“You had so many nominations, you are obviously very well loved in the community,” Rand told Rabbi Fine, the Director of Chabad Queen Mary in Montreal and is a popular lecturer and educator.
“I’m humbled by it, but I represent much more that I am as an individual,” responded Rabbi Fine who is most known for founding Chabad Project Pride – Centre Lifeline, a substance abuse counseling and treatment organization.
While serving as then a Chaplain at McGill University, Rabbi Fine saw firsthand the devastating effects of substance abuse on students and their families.
In 1989, Centre Lifeline was opened as a crisis centre where people in distress could call or visit and get the support they need. Since then, the Centre has attended to the needs of over 85,000 individuals from all walks of life.
