Harav Yaakov Yosef (Yankel) Lepkivker, one of the elder Chassidim of Bnei Brak, Israel passed away this morning, 17 of Tevet, 5775.
He was 86.
Rabbi Lepkivker was known as a devoted and sincere Chossid, who raised a family of chasidim even while living in Communist Russia. After emigrating to Israel, he became a pillar in the Lubavitch community in Bnei Brak.
Rabbi Lepkivker ran the tefillin stand in the central bus station in Tel Aviv, with great success in helping passersby to put on Tefillin.
In his later years, even though he was not well, he wouldn’t give it up until it was physically impossible.
He and his family were zoche to experience many famous miracles from the Rebbe.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Sara Lepkivker and his children: Mrs. Leah Raksin– Petach Tikvah; R’ Baruch Lepkivker-Crown Heights; R’ Yitzchok Lepkivker-Petach Tikvah; R’ Menachem Lepkivker– Kfar Chabad; Mrs. Chanie Krieman– Crown Heights; R’ Chaim Lepkivker-Crown Heights, and R’ Shmulik Lepkivker– Tel Aviv, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The levaya will take place today at 12:30 pm at Shderot Ramban 3, Bnei Brak, and at 4 pm from Shamgar to Har Hamenuchot.

As a young bochur in Russia he (together with his sister Bassiah a”h) risked his life many times to save other bochurim by going to the army office and asking for papers showing that he was too young for the army. He would then give those papers to bochurim who were on the run from the Red Army (which was practically a death sentence for a frum bochur). Obviously if he had been caught it would’ve been his life at stake. זאל ער זיין א גוטע בעטער פאר אונז אלע
