Rabbi Shimon Dahan, a respected elder Chabad Chossid and acclaimed Rov, passed away last night, 20 Cheshvan 5782, a week before his 83rd birthday.
He was from the first talmidim of Yeshivas Oholei Yosef Yitzchok in Meknès, Morocco in 5710, and later joined the Yeshiva Tomchei Tmimim in Brunoy, France in 5715 where he became very close to the famed mashpia Reb Nissan Nemanov.
Under the explicit directives from the Rebbe, he studied safrus and shchita, stating in a letter that “there are not enough mumchim and yireh shamayim in the field.”
Soon after his wedding, he was encouraged by the Rebbe to lead Tiferes Bachurim in Paris, bringing countless people to Yiddishkeit. Rabbi Dahan served as the Rov of Neve Shalom for over four decades as well as the Rosh Hashochatim and member of the Beis Din of Paris.
He is survived by his wife Beruria, and his children Rabbi Eliyahu Dahan – Lille, France; Mrs. Chaya Sara Tawil – Rosario, Argentina; Rabbi Mikhael Dahan – Montreal, Canada; Mrs. Naomi Andrusier – Crown Heights; Mrs. Ruthy Benarroch – Crown Heights; Iza Berg – Crown Heights/Florida; Mrs. Chana Rosenblum – Lauderhill FL; David Dahan – Cleveland, OH; Daniel Dahan – Brunoy, France, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren following in his ways.
The Levaya will leave the Shamgar funeral complex in Yerushalayim at 3 PM and will go to the Chabad section of the Har Hazeisim. The family will sit shiva in Yerushalayim.
Baruch Dayan Haemes.
