What a loss! He was a very refined chassidish Shaliach. Always helping with a pleasant smile, a talmid chacham who knew so much and able to answer questions asked.

I was privileged to have him as my Rebbe for 4th & 5th grade in Boston Lubavitz Yeshiva in the late 1960’s. The Scheiner family also lived in Mattapan at that time. During the last 8-10 years, I enjoyed seeing him again @ the Shaloh House minyan whenever I visited Brighton.

Rabbi Scheiner was the epitome of An emese Chosid, a Baal Midos Toivois and a big Talmid Chocham. In his own humble and understated Way he was mashpiah on so many- va- ani bsoicham, it’s been over 30 years and some of the hadrochas he taught us still ring loudly in my ears. He will be sorely missed.
May the Aibishter give the family the necessary Nechama un Zoiche zein tzu – V’heikitzu V’raninu………

I grew up with the Scheiner children and I remember one Sunday going shopping to the Arsenal Mall on the way back
Rabbi Sciener pulled over and offered this young student a ride for it was a biter cold day. In the car he made conversation about Jewish students on campus etc she was not Jewish however he had such kindness in him to care about this cold stranger. He was also careful not to spend money on motzei Shabbos and his children should remain in their Shabbos clothes msk. Baruch Dayin Emes

He was and still is a real dugma chaya. He had yiras shomayim even before he came to lubavitch, and by his soft-spoken example brought many others to lubavitch and yiras shomayim. May he be a maylitz yosher for his family and klal yisroel. From a Montreal mechutan.

He was a very hidden and modest man. In reality, he was a great Chosid and a true Tzadik. May his family be comforted.

He and his family did so much for me

I met Rabbi Scheiner in a Boston supermarket as a student. He asked if I was Jewish and invited me for Shabbos. The rest is history. I became a bas bayis at the Scheiners, learning with Leah Yehudis regularly until I graduated college and went to Sem in Israel. In the early years Rabbi Scheiner kept pushing me to be Chabad but I resisted. Looking back years later, I realized I didn’t believe I could do it – that’s why I resisted. How could I come from nothing and succeed in juggling all that knowledge and all those mitzvas and… Read more »

He lived on a higher plane

Rabbi Scheiner made a great impression on me when I was a student in NEHA’s 9th & 10th grades. His entire life was lived on a higher plane. For some time he was the mashpia for the bochurim-sheluchim in the Drapkin Yeshiva College division, and I believe that he also taught in the school. Several of his traits stand out in my memory: Bittul; refinement; non-interest in gashmius (although he was always very neat); warm-heartedness; care for others; total dedication to Hashem, which manifested itself in serious yiras shamayim, and dedication to the Rebbe, Chasidus, and people; and temimus. Rabbi Scheiner was one of my first contacts when I switched over to Lubavitch during my high school years. He was our dorm counselor and everything about him made a big impression on me mentioned before ( all of his Midos and Chasidishkeit) . I still can picture him very vividly davening Ba’arichus privately in his dorm room without a drop of Chatzonious. He was the real Dugma Chaya of a true Chasid in every aspect. When I think back to that first year, he and his constant genuine smile is the thought that comes to my mind. Amazingly, he… Read more »

He cared about others and greeted everybody first. When we visited R. Scheiner in hospital over a week ago he, being very weak and attached to different devices shook my husband’s hand and asked “How are you?”

I’m so sorry to the Scheiner family for your loss (and ours) of our dear Rabbi Leibel Scheiner. It was my privilege to get to know and learn from Rabbi Scheiner and his soulmate and wife Leah, two beautiful people with a most wonderful family. They opened their hearts and homes to many of us and sincerely cared, from the heart and spirit, deeply enriching our lives and souls. I consider my true rabbi to have been Rabbi Scheiner and his wife Leah my spiritual guide and both will remain in my heart forever. The kind and gentle spirit of… Read more »
