Rabbi Moshe Kotlarsky, Vice Chairman of Merkos L’inyonei Chinuch in Brooklyn, NY, has begun Tuesday a high profile visit to the Jewish community in Budapest, Hungary.
“It will be a short visit but he will get to tour the Jewish institutions in town and meet top officials such as the President,” COLlive.com was told.
Kotlarsky, who was instrumental in rebuilding the historic Obuda Shul, is being treated as a diplomatic guest of the Hungarian Foreign Office with full police escort.
He visited Chabad’s main shul in town (Head Shliach Rabbi Baruch Oberlander is currently in Israel), the Chabad Keren Ohr center and the Israeli community’s shul, directed by Shliach Rabbi Shmuel Raskin.
Some 100 members of the community came to greet Kotlarsky at an evening of recognition and inspiration at the Obuda shul, which was reopened this year with a grant by Kotlarsky’s friend George Rohr.
A video of the “revolution” Chabad has created in the east European country was shown, with Shliach Rabbi Shlomo Koves thanking Rabbi Kotlarsky for his involvement and care.
