Rabbi Dov Taichman, one of the rabbis of the holy city of Teveria in the northern part of the land of Israel, passed away on Monday night, eve of 23 Iyar 5782.
He was 82.
He was born in Romania and during the Second World War, he fled with his family while his father was sent to a labor camp. As a young boy, he was sent to learn in Bucharest where he met Rabbi Zalman Abelsky, the Shliach of the Frierdiker Rebbe who introduced him to Chassidus.
The family immigrated to Israel in 5711 and settled in the town of Nes Tziyona. At the age of 11, Dov was sent to learn in Yeshiva Tomchei Tmimim Lubavitch in Lod.
The Rebbe instructed that he be involved in Chinuch and he took up teaching positions in Neve Zayit and Nes Tziyona. After his marriage to his wife Chedva, Rabbi Abelsky asked him to manage the Chabad Yeshiva in Kiryat Gat which he did for many years.
He later moved to Teveria where he served as rabbi of the Teverya Ilit neighborhood, a member of the local rabbinate, director of its eiruvin and mikvaos departments and rabbi of the Leonardo Club Tiberias hotel.
He is survived by his children R’ Yisroel Taichman – New York; R’ Yosef Yitzchok Taichman – New York, R’ Menachem Mendel Taichman – Netanya, R’ Shmuel Taichman – New York, R’ Schneur Zalman Taichman – Tzfas, Mrs. Chani Klein – Kiryat Gat, Mrs. Tova Yaakobovitch – New York, Mrs. Ruchi Nisselevich – Kiryat Malachi, Mrs. Devorah Leah Lipskier – Kiryat Malachi, and Mrs. Miri Lieder – New York; and grandchildren.
