The first Shiur of a new Halacha series for married men focusing on the Halachos and Hashkafa of Hilchos Taharas Hamishpacha took place Thursday evening in Crown Heights.
A full crowd of over 100 yungeleit gathered at Empire Shteibel in Crown Heights, with another 500 participating online, for the first Shiur in the 5-week series organized by the new Machon “Taharas Habayis.” The shiurim are given by a group of Rabbonim and Chosson Teachers covering a wide range of topics.
The shiurim are being organized by Machon Taharas Habayis, an organization created to provide a high-quality training and accreditation program to Chosson teachers, classes, podcasts and more. It is led by Rabbi Tuvia Kasimov and Rabbi Mendel Yusewitz.
The first Shiur, titled “How to Ask,” was given by Rabbi Yosef Braun, Mara D’asra and member of the Crown Heights Beis Din.
The event began with greetings by Rabbi Mendel Yusewitz on behalf of Machon ‘Taharas Habayis.’
“Our Parsha begins the Mitzva of ‘Kedoshim Tihiyu’- be holy – and is followed by the Mitzvah of respecting and honoring one’s parents,” said Rabbi Yusewitz. “This is indicative of the far-reaching effect and impact of Tahara in the present and on the home’s future!”
He then introduced the Rav and Mara D’asra Rabbi Yosef Braun. The Rav thanked the Machon and praised the efforts of Rabbi Tuvia Kasimov and Rabbi Yusewitz for this initiative as well as others underway.
The Rav shared many examples while debunking misconceptions, on issues that may arise in marriage, which may lead to grave mistakes ch”v. The Rav also shared many practical ‘real life’ scenarios which demonstrated the clarity one should have when calling a Rav.
Rabbi Braun stressed the importance of keeping constant communication with your Rov and the necessity of reviewing the halachos.
“This is the foundation to keeping the mitzvah,” said Rabbi Braun. “Unlike many other mitzvos where we are educated from a young age, here it is not the case. Therefore, it requires much review.”
“All left uplifted and inspired toward this vital mitzvah,” said Rabbi Yusewitz.
The next 4 in the series of Shiurim will take place weekly at 8:00 pm in Empire Shteibel, 489 Empire Blvd.

In regards to family Tahara, the Rebbe encouraged us to ponder deeply on a fascinating parallel: “Imagine Hashem were to give you the opportunity to save a Jewish community from extinction Ch”v, you would certainly risk your life for this in addition to thanking and praising Hashem for this great kindness in offering you an opportunity of such enormous merit. The same holds true to and even to a greater degree in regard to Taharas Hamishpacha; an endeavor which literally saves lives!” (Hayom Yom Adar, 10)
