Rabbi Bentzion Shagalov, one of the founding residents of the Ramat Shlomo neighborhood in Jerusalem and dedicated Gabbai of the Chabad congregation, passed away on Friday, 12 Iyar, 5776.
He was 92.
The son of renowned Chosid Reb Yitzchok Elchonon Shagalov HYD and the famed “Bubbe” Mariasha obm, R’ Bentzion was raised in an environment of great Mesiras Nefesh to keep Judaism alive in Russia.
He emigrated to England, where he became a successful businessman. When the Ramat Shlomo neighborhood was being built in Jerusalem, R’ Bentzion joined as one of the founders and first residents.
R’ Bentzion served as the dedicated Gabbai of the Chabad Shul in Ramat Shlomo. He was known as a baal Tzedaka who ran a charity gemach and helped many of the needy in the community with great kindness.
He is survived by his children, Shaindy Wilhelm – England, Rivka Tenenbaum – Crown Heights, Leah Zilberstrom – Jerusalem, Israel, Menachem Shagalov – Crown Heights, Yosef Yitzchok Shagalov – Minnesota, Moshe Shagalov – Crown Heights and Yisroel Leib Shagalov – California.
He is also survived by his sisters, Mrs. Shula Kazen, Mrs. Roza Marosow and Mrs. Rochel Levin-Liberow.
The levaya will take place today, Friday in Jerusalem.
