Rabbi Avraham Garfinkel, a former teacher in Lubavitch Yeshiva of Ocean Parkway for many years, will be farbrenging in Crown Heights on Thursday.
Rabbi Garfinkel will lead a Farbrengen and Siyum Hashas at Empire Shteibel in honor of Yud Tes Kislev, the Rosh Hashana of Chassidus and the date the Alter Rebbe was released from Russian prison.
Rabbi Garfinkel was one of the outstanding talmidim of Tomchei Tmimim in Otwock, Poland.
After arriving in America he subsequently became the beloved melamed of over a thousand students spanning the fifty years he was teaching in Tomchei Tmimim (United Lubavitch Yeshiva) on Bedford And Dean, Ocean Parkway, and Chovevei Torah.
The farbrengen will begin at 8:00 pm in order to give Rabbi Garfinkel ample time to speak and inspire everyone and then return home. The Gabboyim of the shul thank his former students for arranging this and are preparing a seudah for the large amount of people that have expressed their interest and anticipation to greeting him at the farbrengen.
Rabbi Garfinkel was recently visited by his student Rabbi Yaacov Schwei, member of the Crown Heights Badatz and Chanina Sperlin, Executive Director of Intergovernmental Affairs of the CHJCC.
that was what they announced when they called my zaidee up to my bar-mitzva parsha he also has for many years been a chazzan for his congregation. My grandfather is b”h zoche to have us grandsons studying to torah in eretz yisroel. even though he has not been capable of reading sefforim for the past ten years- even if I call him now- the first question he asks me- what masechet am I up to. I would start with saying what the masechet- he would ask what daf- then what amud- and without me saying a thing- would “be’al peh”… Read more »

To #3 and #10, go back and learn Pirkei Avos starting with Al Tadin es Chavercha , let alone someone who is on a much higher level than you can ever dream of.
Post an apology because his children and grandchildren are reading these articles and the comments
SHAME ON YOU
what are you? some kind of need to know all judge of other peoples lives?
what about respect, common decency, mentchlechkeit….
I don’t even know who Rabbi Garfinkle is and your questions stand out as totally inapropriate.
what a ridiculous, inappropriate question.
who do you think you are (who ever you are)?
I remember very vividly when he used to visit Yeshivas Achei Tmimim (in the 1950’s & 60’s ) in Worcester, Mass. He was sent , I think, b’shlichus of the Rashag to test all the children in all the classes and to bring back to the Rashag a detailed written report. I think he must have visited the other Yeshivos Achei Tmimim as well.
If I’m not mistaken, the reports were given into the Rebbe as well.
#3 is asking I good question. We know he was a teacher in OP – but why wasn’t he ever by the Rebbe – like the other Chassidim from Otvotzk Poland? Not by Farbrebgen, not Shabbos? Not Yom Tov?
I posted this article without mentionimg anyones name, who arranged it and who visited him. He is coming for the farbrengen and is the featured speaker, not for scoring points.
Why did things that have nothing to do with the farbrengen have to be added?
I will sign my name
Sholom Avtzon
Avrohom what… Ben….
And post on COL. Thanks!
Rabbi Garfinkel taught in Lubavitcher Yeshiva Dean St & then ULY Ocean Parkway and just a short few years in Chovevei Torah he is a very special Yid and I together with 1000’s BH was zoche to his talmid!
It would be irght for those attention seekers to realise that they were not the only oones to have visited and been in touch with him. There were many of his other alumni students that visited and called him throughout and have held him with tremendous esteem always. Amazingly of most of my teachers from all the years at ULY (20 some years) he and ybl’c Rabbi Barnetzky a’h were certainly from the top. Some of the others wouldn’t even desreve a shiva visit. They taught with such love whilst the others besides for not even being qualified teachers many… Read more »
It would only be right to mention the ones who first went to meet Rabbi Garfinkel, and caused others to visit him as well, and also interview him about Otvotzk etc. published in the Kfar Chabad and collive.
Thank you Rabbi Moshe Heber, Rabbi Lazer Avtzon, and Rabbi Uri Ivry. Tovo Aleichem Brocho!

Where was he that past 50 years?!
This is so special. I will definitely be there.
he has agreed to come farbreng on the condition that he leave at 9:15 – 9:30 in order for him to be home at 10:00.
in other words if you want to hear him farbreng then remember that 8:00 means 8:00 real time, NOT 8:00 chabad time (8:30-8:45)
