Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu shared a photo of himself on social media putting on Tefillin on Sunday.
He wrote:
“Let all the peoples of the earth see that the name of the Lord is called upon you, and they shall be afraid of you.”
“Ruchama, the mother of Moshiko Davino, may his name be remembered, who fell in the operation ‘Protective Edge,’ brought me his Tefillin.
“The Tefillin that were with him all the time during the battles are the only item that survived the explosion in which Mosheko fell.
“The scent of the fire’s dust still remains on the Tefillin’s cover.
“I promised Ruchama that I would dedicate the Tefillin for the elevation of Mosheko’s soul and for the elevation of all our fallen.
“That’s what I do today with holy reverence. May the memory of our fallen be blessed and kept in our hearts forever.”
The photo drew excited responses online as this is possibly the very first time that Netanyahu has been photographed wearing Tefillin.
For years, the many Lubavitchers that Netanyahu interacted with have encouraged him to put on Tefillin – for himself and as an encouragement for others.
Netanyahu hails from a family that followed the revisionist Zionist leader of Ze’ev Jabotinsky, who was proudly secular yet conservative. In his autobiography, he stressed Israel’s right to the Holy Land on historical and political grounds and not biblical grounds.
Netanyahu has long been an ally of religious parties, but it wasn’t clear how that personally influenced him. He famously has been impacted by meeting the Rebbe, and had many opportunities to put on Tefillin which he skillfully turned down.
Some have noted that since the October 7 massacre, Netanyahu has been mentioning “Hashem” in his speeches, similar to the faithful tone of his hero and former prime minister Menachem Begin.
Netanyahu certainly can use the prayers as Israel continues a prolonged war with the Hamas terror regime in Gaza, who has not released all the hostages. Last week, President Joe Biden announced a selective weapons embargo on Israel, despite Republican and many Democrat objections.
“What a rare picture. You surprised us. Yeshar Koach,” Yariv commented online on Netanyahu’s new photo. Yomtov wrote: “I am crying with excitement because Netanyahu is a person of substance and depth, and until today he has not agreed to publish a picture of himself with Tefillin.”
Netanyahu, who is a left-handed and famously draws illustrations with his left arm, put on the Tefillin on his right hand.
The Rebbe once said, “The observance of the Mitzvah of Tefillin, especially by military personnel themselves, and more so by those that stand above them and lead them, instills the greatest fear and dread upon every enemy and adversary.”
The Shliach Rabbi Or Ziv of Chabad of Katamon in Jerusalem was one of the people who helped make it happen. “Something that I have worked on for a few years and especially in the last half year is finally finally going to happen,” he wrote earlier today.
You write he’s a lefty, but I thought Likud is right wing?
left-handed
🫣😂
So apparently Bibi is a lefty 😂
This is the definition of Moshiach’s times
It’s a very nice thing to do.
But if you look @ the Pope he’s keeping his minhagim.
Why can’t BB show his/and our religion, of how special it is? especially the ones who DON’T LIKE JEWS.
I don’t get……
The UN don’t like us……
Biden????
BB should put his religion in the front line. The very first!! Before politics.
And show the Goyim. “How it’s important”
The non-jews will finely give us respect.
Social pressure
MOSHIACH ENERGY!
if they don’t want to
no jew should ever have to be drafted against their will
What are you talking about? If your brothers are being shot at you wouldn’t shoot back?
Do they not protect you?
This is about Pikuach nefesh not some political stance.

In the Torah, neviim and all through our history there were drafts.
Learn about Dovid Hamelech times- we were always fighting our enemies and one of the kings ministers was the war general.
We had drafts too- in fact, there’s a mitzvah that you can’t draft a man who’s in his shana rishona, which proves that there was a draft for everyone else.
ben gurion said that the IDF is meant to ideologically change the jewish people to secular zionists. why should anyone be forced to join such a thing?
and plz dont compare the army to that of King Dovid. Those soldiers were tzaddikim and selected because of that. it was supernatural.
so everyone can read it and become educated
When America turns its back on Israel, Israel wakes up and remembers its real supporter
With a capital S!
Heartwarming to see this photo
Hopefully those shluchim in EY that have connections with chavray Haknesset will work that a photo should appear of every
one of them wearing Tefillain showing the whole world the Gaon Yaakov and Jewish pride
Chevra keep up this so important work and may we be zoche to see the immediate hisgalus of the Rebbe Melech Hamoshiach NOW
Israeli leadership can really use these hamshochois right now!!!
Menachem Begin was a dugma chaya who put on Tefilin every day. Chabad chosid never judges but patiently waits for that first commitment with whoever they encounter, be it Shabbos Tefilin Kashrus vechulu. The Rebbe never pressured any Jew only encouraged.
This man is severely underrated as a PM. Right now he is basically standing almost alone, leading our nation. He needs all the strength he can get.
May H-Shem protect and support him.
he was even more militant than jabotinsky and many people went OTD because of both of them. please stop glorifying these people and their students.
Each time we perform a mitzvah it strengthens our connection to HaShem, when a mitzvah is performed in front of others it encourages the onlookers, either consciously or even subconsciously to be more mitzvah aware.
The photo of PM Netanyahu donning the Tefilin of the fallen soldier has gone viral, may the mitzvah fortify and uplift Bibi and inspire others.
Boruch Hashem!
Persuasive picture must be made into banner form at Mivtzoim !!! If Menachem Begin’s picture of putting on Tefilin could be located ?!…, it would be a thousand word icon to promote people to put on Tefilin Daily particularly if it is stated the he put them on daily! Similarly if the picture of the record cover of Nichoach #7 could be displayed at Mivtzoim, Moreso if Bibi is putting those TEFFILIN on daily An stated so ! It would persuade so many more to do so! BCHLAL….it’s extremely urgent for Anash on mivtzoim to always remember to persuade the… Read more »
