An attempt to steal pieces of jewelry worn by 2 Jewish women in Crown Heights on Sunday evening has resulted in the swift and harmless arrest of the predators.
Three black men attacked and tried to snatch valuables worn by the women while walking on Brooklyn Avenue, leading the women to scream loudly and bring bystanders to call for help.
Shmira volunteer security patrol was able to arrive immediately and follow the attempted thieves to a bus stop on Utica Avenue where they boarded a city bus.
A Shmira volunteer was able to flag down an NYPD vehicle whose officers went on to pull over the bus. The predators ran but after a brief foot pursuit, all three males were placed under arrest.
Police said they will be charged with attempted robbery. They said the males range in age from 17 to 19 years of age, and live in the confines of the 67th NYPD precinct.
these perpetrators are being called “vildeh chayos” because they are acting like wild animals. ( actually, from what i understand, even vildeh chayos won’t attack if they aren’t feeling threatened or hungry.) you can’t walk around town doing what you please at other people’s expense and not expect to be called uncomplimentary names.you say madoff is being accorded greater respect. how so? madoff is not being called a vildeh chayeh because that was not his modus operandi. he is being called a conniving, underhanded, unfeeling crook who has committed grand larceny, or whatever the legal term is for what he… Read more »
Criminals are called names based upon their actions, not based upon race/ethnic background. When you commit a crime against defenseless women, I think you are deserving of the worst of names. A great many of today’s inner city youth embrace the gangsta lifestyle and mentality. While many CH see many black youths committing crime, there is also a big problem amongst latino youth in the Bronx. Individual have choice and free will. The only thing that will stop more crime is to make the criminals fear the costs of the action. Political correctness, and not calling them for what they… Read more »
In the merits with the only hope the community has is Hatzoloh and Shmirah with Chaverim. How nice our community is pulling together.
Moshiach Now, so all these groups could get a well deserved break already
Forget the hundreds of millions for affordable housing, where are the elected officials demanding more NYPD, and undercover NYPD to talk the streets ?
Gee, I was too busy having sympathy for the victims to notice that the perps were called not nice names. Believe me Madoff was called worse, especially by those who lost their money. There’d be less name calling if there wasn’t incessant crimes, including hate crimes committed against our community by black youth. That will do the trick, not your righteous indignation.
Nice job Shmira
Every night is another story.
Starting to feel like crown heights in the 70s
The information came directly from the NYPD
The article is pretty clear. It says all 3 were arrested and being charged with attempted robbery, which is more or less considered an actual robbery in regards to the law.
Are you complaining that these youths were called thugs and monkey’s? Or are you saying we should call Bernard Madoff a monkey?
Or are you just being a “predator Monkey” enabler…?
NO ARRESTS??
these guys tried to steal a bit of jewelry. madoff stole millions of dollars, yet i doubt that you would call him a vilde chaye. words like thug, predator, beast, monkey, etc. have been used for years to dehumanize african-americans, and you’re contributing to the problem. Obviously not condoning what they did, and bh no one was hurt.
words matter. if you don’t believe me check out baruch she’amar…
Too bad they don’t have the power to make arrests themselves however. They got lucky that police was nearby and able to intervene.
I’m a relative of the victims. They were choked with their costs squeezed around their necks. It was an assault, not a robbery. I’m not sure where that info came from.
Unbelievable, these events are becoming normal in our community!!

Nice job Shmira.
please Hashem protect us all and bring Moshiach NOW
Seems like every day there’s another story with these chayos
Firstly Baruch hashem everyone is alright, and these Vildeh Chayos have been caught. Kol Hakovod to the ladies in this story, they reacted exactly as they should have. And thank you Shmirah and the NYPD for being there for us.
