Report by Shmira volunteer patrol group of Crown Heights:
Shmira is reminding the community to be alert after couple of incidents occurred at Lefferts Park in Crown Heights.
The incidents began approximately a month ago, which included young children getting harassed. It then progressed to them being threatened, and then it led to a child getting assaulted.
The latest incident occurred on Thursday June 8, approximately 6:00PM. The same group of trouble makers returned to the Park, grabbed 2 briefcases and ran off.
Crown Heights Shmira received a couple of calls notifying them of the incident. While Shmira members began searching for the suspects, one of the briefcases was found on a nearby street.
A short while later, Shmira members located one of the suspects in the surrounding area. As Police quickly arrived, Shmira brought the victims and multiple witnesses to identify the suspect.
He was positively identified and detained. He soon admitted of stealing the briefcase and told the Police exactly where it was located. The briefcase was recovered and returned to the owner.
Shmira is working with the NYPD 71st Precinct to arrange a full time Police Officer to be stationed at the park during day time hours.
Shmira is reminding the community – as the summer is approaching, crime is on the rise. Please be alert, pay attention to your surroundings and do not hesitate to call CH Shmira anytime at 718-221-0303 and 911.
