Picture of the Day

A new dish at Mendy's Delicatessen in Crown Heights drew the attention of its young clientele. The addition to the menu was turkey in honor of Thanksgiving Day, celebrated November 26. More

November 27, 2009 10:06 am

No more turkey – way of the goyim.
No more pizza – way of the Italians
no more Pastrami – way of the Rumanians
No more sushi – the way of the Jaspanese
No more BBQs, hotdogs, hamburgers – the way of the 4th of July-niks
no more Falafel – the way of the Arabs
No more Chinese food – the way of the Fryeh Yidden

say better things or dont speak at all.

eating turkey is not a shande. i eat turkey tonight. in fact i just came home from a delicious thanksgiving dinner. so dont criticize me for loving my country and being proud to be an american. we are purely giving thanks for living in a wonderful country, free to practice religion of yiddishkeit and do whatever we want. freedom of speech and a wonderful country. hooray! give thanks!! 🙂 a gut shabbos. again, yall, think b4 u speak..

Like the Ramban wrote: “the 9th year on the 9th month at the 9th hour >> of the day is a time of happiness and grants from Hashem”. and you should know,… Read more »

give me a break! Would you rather live in the antisemitic Ukraine? or maybe in the Muslim-populated France? If you are looking to negative you can find plenty in America – ignoring the Holocaust, KKK, racism – but that good clearly overshadows it all. The Rebbe called the U.S. the nation of good and that is what they are. Most Americans support Israel (giving away land was always an Israeli initiative), Jews have gained much success here and the authorities are fair. Bringing once incident – albeit an important one – of a person who has not conducted his business… Read more »

Why is it an ais ratzon?

Chukas Hagoy
November 26, 2009 8:40 am

Yes it is a Chukas Hagoy, have the turkey tomorrow, but not today. By the way the USA that you are celebrating has incarcerated a fellow Chossid, in what we deem an unfair trail.

Rebbeim spoke everything
November 26, 2009 8:22 am

As the frierdiker rebbe once said “one thing if we eat turkey on a holiday but to make a holiday out of a turkey”

Go Kievman gang!

My turkey is cooking
November 26, 2009 5:39 am

So what? #2, you must feel bad I didn’t invite you. Obviously, there’s a reason for that 😉

If you don’t want turkey, don’t eat it! If you don’t want to acknowledge the freedom we (still for the time being) have in this country, don’t.

November 26, 2009 5:24 am

to #2, that was beautiful, and BH we live in a place where we can serve Hashem, but we have our ways of thanking and connecting to Hashem. Having turkey today is a pathetic thing to do, who r we trying to copy/ fit in with?

A Kosher Holiday Thanksgiving
November 26, 2009 5:19 am

This is what Rabbi Avraham Hecht, President of the Rabbinical Alliance of America – Igud HaRabanim, commented after his son said Thanksgiving is a “pagan holiday” and didn’t want to eat Turkey: “You are an American, a fourth generation American. Be happy that you have a country that believes in G-d. If anything, Thanksgiving is a Jewish idea.” His son Rabbi Eli Hecht, today Director of Chabad of South Bay in California and Vice-President of Rabbinical Alliance of America, added: “For the next few years my father bought a large turkey for Thanksgiving and we had two turkey meals: one… Read more »

Unbelieveble
November 26, 2009 4:48 am

Eating turkey on Thanksgiving is considered “Abizreihu DeAvodah Zara” – a smell of idel worship. This is definitly Chukos Hagoyim non Jewish costums.

It is a Shande

not impressed
November 26, 2009 4:42 am

we r chassidim and should not follow chukas hagoy. looks delcious how much is it?
