Last Sunday, Cheder Chabad of Philadelphia presented their first ever production for women – “Voices of Eternity” starring the students in 1st – 8th grade.
The story follows a young woman named Miriam as she searches for a way to pull herself together in a troubling time in the world and be able to affect some change. Miriam meets a young woman, Chana, who takes her on a journey through the past to meet Jewish women who have taken a stance and brought change to their generations. Through Miriam, Queen Esther, Rochel (Rabbi Akiva’s wife), a Russian mother and Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka, Miriam discovers the power of Jewish women to look beyond darkness and suffering, and develops a greater understanding of her role in today’s world.
The students were led by Morah Chaya’leh Levin, who directed and produced the production, and Principal Mrs. Shevy Lowenstein, who both worked tirelessly to bring out each girl’s talent and ensure a successful production! The students did an amazing job, and everyone in attendance was impressed by the outstanding performance. The inspiring story included dances choreographed by the students and remarkable solo and choir performances accompanied by the song lyrics displayed on the screen, all with the assistance of Cheder Chabad’s capable staff. The sets, props and costumes, made by teachers, parents and students, added just the right touch to set the play in motion. There was an overwhelming amount of support by the Cheder families in every aspect from props to selling tickets to preparing the girls with their hair and make-up on the day of the performance.
From the packed audience, people were inspired by the message and by the girls! Mrs. Batsheva Shemtov, Head Shlucha to Philadelphia, said “how beautiful and impressive and professional the production was! You can tell these are the Rebbe’s kinderlach!” Another participant shared “I learned so much! I plan to incorporate this incredibly informative playbill with its inspiring Jewish history and messages into my Seder.”
Cheder Chabad of Philadelphia is extremely proud of the girls and of the important message the production imparted that as women and girls of today, we must spread the light and inspiration of chassidus to prepare the world for the coming of Moshiach now!
Special mention and thank you to Morah Elisheva Cohen, Morah Miryam Biberfeld, Morah Mushky Gurkow, Morah Esther Raizel Jacobs, Morah Taylor McEwing, Morah Rachel Pogolowitz, Morah Sarah Sherman, Morah Shaina Sitron, Morah Onit Zisserman, Mrs. Chani Baram, Mrs. Leiba Erlbaum, Mrs. Miriam Gerber, Mrs. Malki Goldshmid, Mrs. Pessi Gurevitz, and Mrs. Rivka Weber
