Parents of kids enrolled at Gymies gym in Crown Heights were in for an extra treat: they got to join their kids’ gymnastics, dance and martial arts classes for Parents’ Participation Week.
“It was hard to tell who was having more fun, the parents doing head stands, or the Gymies kids showing them how,” said Gymies Director Sara Chanie, who enthusiastically told COLlive about the center’s new holistic approach – which includes the entire family.
“It was really impactful for the kids to see their parents work hard, and set a good example for a fun and healthy lifestyle,” she said. “This group activity is in line with our move to a more holistic approach to physical activity,” she explained.
Proud father Levi Capland, whose kids Noami, 4, Ari, 9, and Gavriel, 7, attend Gymies classes, had this to say with a smile the following morning: “Yeah, I’m sore but it was really worth it.”
Upcoming Gymies plans include their third floor expansion suited for adult activities, like Yoga, Pilates and Crossfit style classes, slated to launch by year’s end.
Gymies is a great combo of positivity, structure and team work.
