Rabbi Ovadia Goldman listened to the languages spoken around his seder table during Passover last year and counted at least eight.
English. Russian. Spanish. Aramaic. Italian. Hebrew. French. Portugese.
Jews from all around the world had gathered for Chabad Jewish Center’s Passover seder.
Goldman said this year won’t be any different.
While the Passover seder is typically a custom centered around the family home, the meal traditionally served during the holiday also is about community, he said.
“It’s very, very special to not just say the words of the invitation but to actually open our seder up to others,” Goldman said.
Thus, two Community Passover seders are planned at the Chabad Community Center for Jewish Life and Learning, where Goldman is rabbi. The first seder will be on the first night of Passover, which begins at sundown Wednesday, and a second seder is planned for Thursday.
… Goldman said a community seder can be educational for many Jews who did not grow up attending a family seder or whose family had infrequent seders.
He said the seder at Chabad (an Orthodox Jewish organization) will be traditional, and all 15 steps and all readings of the Haggadah will be completed.
