By Chana Perman
Here’s to the many sorts
The thick or thin-skinned
The spineless or spine-ful
Fragrant or not
Green eyed (or minded)
Banded together
We are a mighty force
We are shaken
But we bow – never crack
We are far-flung
Foreign winds howl
Into our world-weary ears
But, like the incorrigible lulav
And its sturdy esrog partner
We stand proud, upright
Looking upward
And inward
The sukkah houses our true selves
A temporary yet forever permanence
The soul understands best.
