Educational Institute Oholei Torah in Crown Heights will close its Bais Medrash (Zal) division for the rest of the Tishrei month after a few of the students tested positive for COVID 19, COLlive has learned.
The school informed the parents that the Zal has been on lockdown and the students have been quarantining for the past few days.
“With Yomtov approaching and bochurim wanting to be with family, we are giving the option for the boys to safely quarantine at home,” they said.
For those that will not be able to quarantine safely at home, the yeshiva will keep the Zal apartments open through Simchas Torah, they informed.
The school said they will be providing food, a sukkah and whatever else is needed for those who will be quarantining in the dormitory.
They said they will “do whatever we can to make sure the boys are comfortable.”
Bochurim are required to adhere to the CDC guidelines and follow the quarantine rules, as per the Dept. of Health, even those with antibodies are not exempt from the two-week quarantine.
They also noted that the DOH may be visiting homes to make sure the students are quarantining properly.
In recent weeks, Crown Heights has seen an uptick in coronavirus cases. The Gedalia Society and Dr. Eli Rosen, as well as the Rabbonim, have warned residents against davening in 770 Eastern Parkway.
On Motzei Shabbos, a large crowd of residents and guests packed into the Shul for Selichos prayers, most not wearing masks or social distancing. There has also been a large influx of people into the neighborhood, to study in Yeshiva or to spend the month of Tishrei.
“Given the recent developments of continued positive cases in our community, many of which are associated with 770, and given the inherent crowded indoor mixing nature of 770, we strongly advise that all people avoid davening in 770 for the time being,” they said, stressing that currently “there is significant risk of contracting the virus in 770.”
In a message to the community, Rabbi Yosef Braun of the Crown Heights Beis Din said, “The doctors have recently notified to avoid davening in 770 due to the high risk of being there at the moment,” he said. “The rabbonim fully support this statement of the doctors in relation to being cautious of those risks.”
“As to what the administration of the shul should do based on these guidelines, this also includes the possibility of closing 770 (G-d forbid) if that is necessary, unfortunately,” Rabbi Braun said.

I’m not the biggest advocate to shut down 770, but if they want people not to attend then it needs to be closed, the washing machine will be spinning as usual, and the shul will be filled packed like sardines, there’s no other way, to suggest not go or that is unsafe has already been proven to be ineffective.
There are already many visitors in CH, and closing 770 would mean they would go to other shuls and possibly infect others.
the problem is more the government then the the virus, the government sees how we are not listening because of the defiant isreali’s and that there is 1000 in one hall/shul they might shut some things down

Why do we have to be different than the whole world and not follow the simple steps to staying safe. It’s selfish of anyone who isn’t wearing a mask!!
Why shut down 770? Anyone who wants to go there should be able to go there. If you’re so afraid then you should stay away from 770 and stay away from people who go there.
Maybe look at real stats of what’s going on in the ‘whole world’ instead of just believing everything the media tells you. You might find a different reality

Very easy to call out skeptics as “conspiracy theorists” but with COVID there has been lots of monkey business going on by leftist governments especially by Democrats here in the USA.
It is very easy to compare how many people died in a particular area during a particular time pre-covid and look at the number of deaths in that area post-covid and see that not only have there been many more deaths post-covid but that the approx. 190,000 deaths to date is a big understatement.

And why is it ok that elderly people died? Yes, Many of them had other conditions but that doesn’t mean they died of other conditions. They died because of Covid and they could have gone on to live many more years because of the medications that we have to treat other health problems.

why would you send these boys home to infect their families and then the rest of us? Quarantine all of them – they’ll all be exposed and over it and we move on. If you send them home and then back again after tishrei – same thing will happen
Look at Israel where they have shut down multiple times and had a strictly enforced mask mandate and yet they are still getting more cases and are locked down again! Masks don’t work and lockdowns don’t work. Vulnerable ppl should stay home and everyone should go about their lives as normal. Of course there will be more “cases” but who cares. First, show me the numbers and what cycle threshold is being used for the tests, and second I want to see numbers on hospitalizations. israel has one lockdown and strict mask enforcement which worked. There were barely any cases. But then they idiodically opened everything up while inforcing masks. They allowed gyms and indoor eating in restaurants and mass protests of thousands of people. They opened schools without testing students and teachers until they got infections. So dont say masks dont help. Now israel is going to a 2nd lockdown. With lockdown buses stopped running on shabbos and nightclubs and restaurants open on shabbos closed.
