The Yeshiva at the Ohel, directed by Rabbi Abba Refson, initiated a number of Mivtza Chanukah programs, with uniquely-designed “Chanukah Mitzva Tanks,” helping many Shluchim in Long Island and Queens with their Chanukah celebrations and Menorah lightings.
With the help of the energetic students Levi Duchman and Chaim Eilenberg, and arrangements by Mendy Hecht, the project turned out to be a major success.
Hundreds of Jews were reached – they put on Tefillin – some for the first time, lit menorahs on-board the Mitzvah Tanks, and enjoyed refreshments – all in the Chanukah spirit.
On the eighth night of Chanukah, the group organized a Farbrengen and lively dancing at Yeshiva University, followed by Mivtzoyim in central Manhattan.
Many people the students met were inspired to add in good deeds and prayers, especially after the Mumbai attacks, and the recent Chanukah Wonderland accident in their own vicinity.
The entire project was L’Iluy Nishmas HaKedoshim, Rabbi Gavriel Noach & Rivka Holtzberg, HY”D.
