The NYPD 71st Precinct will be providing extra police coverage in the Crown Heights neighborhood throughout the Tishrei month to ensure the safety of residents and guests.
“As every year, we will be bringing in an influx of extra police officers for the entire month,” Police Officer Mike Baratta, the 71st Precinct Community Affairs Officer, told COLlive.
“We will have extra officers stationed throughout the area for each of the major Jewish holidays, including Rosh Hashana, Yom Kippur, Sukkos and Simchas Torah as well,” he said.
Baratta said the police will be on hand to coordinate Kaparos and Tashlich this year in particular, and will help ensure that social distancing regulations are adhered to.
The NYPD will also provide street closures during key davening times during Shabbos and Yom Tov, when crowds of people walk to and from Shul.
Baratta says that an additional force of police cars will be patrolling the neighborhood during Rosh Hashana for an extra measure of safety.
“The NYPD will be making extra visits to the neighborhood to make sure that everyone feels safe and protected,” Baratta said.
