The NYPD has arrested the man who is suspected to have brutally attacked a Chasidic Jew in Crown Heights last Shabbos.
James Vincent, 40, was arrested on Friday. Police charged him with hate crime assault, strangulation and unlawful possession of marijuana.
Members of an NYPD Warrant Squad grabbed Vincent following an appearance in Brooklyn criminal court on an unrelated case Friday morning and brought him to the 71st Precinct, the NY Daily News reported.
Vincent, whose latest known address is in the Bronx, has an extensive arrest record, COLlive was told by a source in the NYPD.
50-year-old Menachem Moscowitz was walking home from shul when he was violently assaulted by the man, who allegedly beat and strangled him, while screaming anti-Semitic threats at him in response to his friendly “hello.”
“Our community can feel much more secure this Shabbos while our men walk to shul and our families are out and about visiting,” Devorah Halberstam, NYPD 71st Precinct liaison and community activist, told COLlive. “The NYPD, under Chief Steve Powers‘s efforts and 71 Precinct inspector Frank Giordano, have worked non-stop on finding the perpetrator of this hateful anti-semitic attack.”

This poor excuse for humanity is a menace to the public. I feel bad for the people in his life who have to deal with him on a daily basis, his family and acquaintances, children, etc.
So Rikers Island prison will be closed, and developed into high rises and the prisoners will then be classified as mentally ill and put in supportive housing in Southeast CH ( probably all that NYS land between Utica & Albany and Clarkson & Winthrop)
The idea of being at the trial might backfire. Remember that a Brooklyn Jury may not be so ready to convict if it becomes racial.
He’s 40 years old with 40 priors – how does that bode for him being convicted and serving jail time? We as a community, as well as neighboring communities need to come out in force at any and all hearings, trials and sentencing. The judges and the prosecutors need to see that we cannot stand by anymore – Vloy Saamoyd Al Dam Rayacha!
I don’t know where the commentors are getting their information. Vincent has been charged with assault as a hate crime and other serious felony charges that can get him 15 or more years in jail.
WE CANNOT CHANGE THESE PEOPLE AS IS CLEARLY WITNESSED BY THE LARGE PERCENTAGE OF BLACK ON BLACK CRIME, SO WE HAVE TO TURN TO THE JUSTICE SYSTEM. I read about another attack by a different man saying the exact same things to his victim. This parroting is due to the instigation of some of our elected officialsCspeaking anti-semitic hate talk. That is the root cause of this problem.

got a job, worked until retirement with a pension, lived comfortably enough, had children & grandchildren. Only was finally caught due to a fluke. Yeah sometimes the very worst seem to get everything good for most of their time in this world.

And we happen to live in a state where people who decide not to work often get better healthcare, more secure housing and food budget than those who work 8 hours a day. And it’s also possible that this criminal has a city job (with ample vacation time and life long pension) from which he’ll never be fired.

Yes let’s make some more excuses for them. There are many Jews in this very community who have ‘economically induced’ difficulties, but they manage to keep their hands and their slurs to themselves. Arresting criminals isn’t going to solve a cultural (maybe/economically induced) problem. The thing is, there’s no real way to change the culture among the perpetrators. This is the way it is until Moshiach comes-Eisav Soneh es Yaakov, unless The Rebbe’s Moment of Silence would actually be enforced in every school. It would also help if the single motherhood rate would drop.
