A grand celebration and ribbon cutting were held Sunday to mark the opening of the new Nosson’s Shul and Community Center in South Crown Heights.
Members of the Shul, many of whom have been part of the Shul since it started out 11 years ago as a small Class Shul in memory of Nosson Deitsch OBM, joined with their families as they celebrated the momentous event.
The event began with a children’s program, with the children doing crafts and enjoying treats.
This was followed by the grand outdoor event, which was held outside with the assistance of the NYPD who closed off the street.
The ceremony was addressed by Rabbi Yosef Braun, member of the Crown Heights Beis Din, who related that he was a former member at the Shul when he lived nearby, and said that he always enjoyed being in the Shul, and enjoyed its chasidishe environment.
Rabbi Braun noted that the Shul’s advancement and expansion are truly remarkable, and an example to all other Shuls.
Rabbi Chaim Yisroel Wilhelm, leader of the Shul, then read the rebbe’s letter to all who participated in the purchasing of a Shul.
During the event, a surprise announcement was made that the new building will be dedicated in honor of Harav Yeshaya Zusya ben Chana Rivkah, for a speedy refuah shelaima.
Rabbi Zushe and Mrs. Esther Wilhelm were then honored with cutting the ribbon, followed by joyous simcha and dancing by participants.
The building’s main Mezuzah was hung by donor R’ Levi Huebner.
The Shul was then opened and the first Mincha was davened inside.
The crowd then participated in a grand outdoor Menorah lighting, lit by R’ Shloime Silver, with Chanukah gelt for all the children.
The beautiful new Center is located in the heart of South Crown Heights, on a corner at 579 Brooklyn Avenue near Midwood Street, and is centrally located to be a community hub.
The building contains a Shul, 3 classrooms, kitchen, outdoor yard space and parking area. The plans for the future include the building of a Mikvah in the basement.
The Shul is run by Board Members Menachem Sheinberger, Getzy Goldstein, Danny Chitrik, Mendy Wilhelm and Mendy Morris.
