Common ground seems to have been achieved in Crown Heights as the Gaboim of 770 have made a step towards compromise.
Rabbi Avraham Osdoba, the senior authority of the local Bais Din, will be invited to the podium at the Birchas Hachama ceremony in front of 770 Eastern Parkway.
Scheduled for 8:00 am on April 8, 2009 (14 Nissan 5769), this once in 28 years event will include the special customary prayer. But some expressed concern over a messianic skew of the event in an article on COLlive.
Speaking today with COLlive, 770 Gabai Zalman Lipskier sounded more accommodating.
“Wo don’t want to intimidate,” he said. “There won’t be signs of any kind if anyone is worried about that.”
The event will be kept short, he said. Men will stand near 770 and women on the other side of the parkway. Police were already seen today positioning barriers.
A recording of the Lubavitcher Rebbe saying one of the three Sichos which he said during the previous event in 1981 will be played. Yossi Cohen will be playing music as a finale.
Lipskier said Rabbi Osdoba will be making a Siyum for the first-borns who fast on Erev Pesach.
Rabbi Shmuel Butman, Director of Lubavitch Youth Organization, was mentioned as the agreed upon emcee.
