Newsweek
In the third yearly list of 50 most influential Rabbis, Newsweek ranks the 50 most influential rabbis in America “based on an unscientific algorithm. Proximity to powerful people and opinion leaders, visibility in national media, size of congregation and good works all count.”
Coming in at number 4, after David Saperstein, Marvin Hier and Mark Charendoff, is Rabbi Yehuda Krinsky:
4. Yehuda Krinsky (2008 Ranking #4) Krinsky’s impact continues to grow as the global leader of the Chabad movement.
In the list of America’s 25 Most Vibrant Congregations, “a list by Sony Pictures Entertainment chairman and CEO Michael Lynton, News Corp. executive vice president Gary Ginsberg and JTN Productions CEO Jay Sanderson of the country’s most vibrant Jewish congregations,” it lists The Shul, Miami, under the leadership of Rabbi Sholom D. Lipskar.
The Shul, Miami
“One of the country’s most unorthodox Orthodox synagogues,” reaching out to Miami’s diverse Jewish population, including Sephardic Jews.
Congregations are listed geographically and are chosen based on the following criteria:
Social and Community Engagement
Growth of Membership
Outreach to Young People
Diversity of Programming
Programmatic Innovation
Dynamism of Religious Services
Get your facts before you type. When the Rebbe accepted the nisiushe chose Rabbi Mordechai Hodakov and Rabbi Nissan Mindel as his officials on Merkos, Machne and Aguch. This was in the early years of the nisius. Than in the 1970’s the Rebbe added Rabbi Yehuda Krinsky as an official on Aguch, Merkos and Machne. These three organizations functioned as the Rebbe’s three Head mosdos. These people “helped” the Rebbe in all areas of Lubavitch work. Yes he also had other secretaries, Rabbi Groner, Rabbi Simpson and Klein, who shared with Hodakov, Mindel and Krinsky the work of mazkirus. Of… Read more »
where did the Rebbe pick Rabbis Minedl, Hodakov and Krinsky???????????????????????????
PLEASE DONT TRY TO RE-WRITE LUBAVITCH HISTORY WIH FANTASIES!!!
I think Sholom Ber Drizin should be placed on the top of that list… hes the one that really cares for what the Rebbe stands for!
The true Rabbi in lubavitch is the Shluchim, both individually and collectively. They are the ones that dedicate themselves day and night to carry out the directives of their Commander-In Chief, The Rebbe. That the facade of Lubavitch being led by this one individual is so represented to the press has no meaningful effect on any of the true activities of the Lubavitch movement. A self appointed paper puppet is just that. Those that are “doers” in Lubavitch are doing what they should be doing and are not interested to be individually glorified by the media. May the Shluchim and… Read more »
Why DID the Rebbe pick rabbis Hodakov , Mindel and Krinsky?
Should’ve checked first with the readers of COLLIVE.
Real shame.
Rabbi Krinsky was not put up by the Rebbe as Chairman of nothing he was just the secretary of the corporation but all this was just for the papers. Lubavitch is not a corporation Lubavitch is a movement with shluchim and chasidim drived by the directives and chayus of the nosi hador The Rebbe (Roish Bnei Yisroel) WITH THE CLEAR DIRECTIVE OF THE ONLY SHLICHES OF KABOILAS PNEI MOSHIACH TZIDKEINU TO GET US OUT OF THIS GOLUS. Anything else is KFIRE and HEIPCH HAYISKASHRUS and has no shaychus whatsoever with chasides chabad.
Are all you disappointed people also disappointed in the Rebbe’s choosing of Rabbi Krinsky over yourselves?
Es past nisht for chasidim to regretfully ponder the Rebbe’s decisions.
Just to remind everyone, Rabbi Krinsky was put as the chairman of Merkos/Kehos/Machne, By The Lubavitcher Rebbi OBM. whether we like it or not, that’s the way it is.
He is a very inflyential and inspiring guy, come on NEWSWEEK!
leader of the chabad movement?
isn’t that the Rebbe?
The real shanda is why he is only 4. On the list? CHabad is number one!
How ridiculous, all these comments!
It’s the Rebbe, not his chasidim that’s being honored here.
Of course its rabbi Krinsky they pin it on, he represented the Rebbe to the world for more than forty years, and still continues to do so, tzu langer gezunter yahren.
So stop the nonsense, and be happy that Lubavitch is being honored despite what the m’s have tried to do to it.
Lchaim! Lchaim Ulevracho!
truth of the matter is that no one has any influence in Chabad these days, its chaos and money talks loudest, leider leider
Looks like the chazal knew what they were saying when they said “Kol Haboreiach…” – whoever runs from kovod, the kovod runs after him. And furthermore: whoever chases after kovod, the kovod escapes from him.
V’dal and clear as day.
What became of Chabad ?? there are starving Shluchim and all we can talk about is power and big shuls?? what a crying shame
i would go for shemtov as the most influential rabbi in chabad
influence? power?
got the wrong man
The world saw true leadership in Rabbi Krinsky after the Mumbai massacre.
His demeanor on the international tv scene was very malcchusdi and befitting for Lubavitch and the Rebbe. The world saw that and was very impressed.
I guess the Rebbe knew who he was choosing when he chose him for all the positions he put him (sorry, commenters commenting above, who seem to think differently).
Rabbi Kotlarsky is great, but he is vice chairman, not chairman.
Also he received that position by being voted in, Rabbi Krinsky has it from the Rebbe.
He is absolutely not the leader… The Rebbe is our leader… maybe the executive director!
It’s about the leadership. Rabbi Kotlarsky maybe running around and the guy on the ground, but in fact he is second to rabbi Krinsky and reports to him.
To the new Lubavitcher Rebbe!!!
I think that rabbi kotlarsky is more influential than rabbi krinsky, I think that most lubavitchers and baalabatim would agree.
if he would have the most power in lubavitch, he would definetely be what they write..
but r’ yudel has zero power..
avraham/levi shemtov, kotlarsky, gutnick, …
not really, but a kiddush lubavitch anyways
doesnt have any influnce, shemtov and kotlarsky do.
thats the way i see it
The Shul really is an incredible place. I remember when Rabbi Lipskar started. Just like all the Shluchim today start..in a hotel and then a storefront…Amazing to see his (the Rebbe’s) success!
