Jews in Kazakhstan and elsewhere marked the yahrtzeit of Rabbi Levi Yitzchak Schneerson OBM, a Chasidic leader and Kabbalist and father of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, in Almaty.
Some have arrived from far places like New York to visit his grave site on the 20th of Av.
Among them was Rabbi Sholom Duchman, director of Colel Chabad charity; Rabbi Chaim Shaul Brook, director of Vaad Hanochos B’Lahak; and Yossi Katz.
A special marquee was erected near the gravesite so that visitors could sit to write a letter of prayer and have a cold drink.
Young Shluchim were on hand to provide any necessary assistance and put Tefillin on male visitors.
A Farbrengen took place later that day at the Levi Yitzchok Shul in the Chabad Lubavitch Jewish Center at which stories of Rabbi Levi Yitzchok’s bravery and self-sacrifice were told.
During the farbrengen, one of the residents of the Israeli community of Gimzu spoke about his connection with Rabbi Levi Yitzchok.
