By COLlive reporter
According to recently revealed public information, The Office of Technology and Innovation of the Mayor’s office of New York City is planning on installing 14 5G Towers on the busy sidewalks of Crown Heights, drawing concern from local residents.
The plans are to install the 32-foot tall towers in the coming weeks in the Crown Heights neighborhood, some of them on Kingston Avenue.
These are in addition to dozens of 5G LinkNYC Kiosks which have already started being placed in multiple locations in the center of Crown Heights this week.
Many Crown Heights residents have expressed concern about the planned towers, and some have inquired about the reason for the placement, activists told COLlive.
The purported reason for this is that “according to research done by the Office of Technology and Innovation of NYC, the community board 9 district area of Crown Heights (also known as the center of Crown Heights by Lubavitchers) is an ‘underserved community’ who will receive many more of these permanent 5G cell phone towers – more than other neighborhoods in Brooklyn.”
The proposal states the towers are being placed in locations with ‘Lack of broadband options,’ ‘Lower median annual income,’ and ‘High levels of pedestrian / street traffic.’
Opinions on these 5G cell towers are mixed, with some people saying that they will provide better phone and internet service to benefit the community. Others share their concerns that this technology releases harmful radiation into the air that can cause health issues if one lives or works in constant proximity to them.
Recently, a community in the upper east side of Manhattan has been fighting the city to remove these recently placed cell towers and kiosks due to them attracting vagrants, looking unsightly, and over health concerns.
Aside from Crown Heights, the neighborhoods of Boro Park and Flatbush are getting a combined 57 of these 5G towers. These numbers are non-proportional to the rest of Brooklyn, the activist told COLlive.
“According to Public Records, most other neighborhoods in Brooklyn are getting a select few towers in the single digits,” they said.
“Once again due to the perceived alleged “undeservedness” of our communities, the City feels that our neighborhoods need advancements in technology, and this is their way of providing resources to us, instead of the city providing resources to our schools and other basic social needs which would greatly benefit the community,” a concerned young resident told COLlive.
According to highly reliable information by Crown Heights Askanim, these plans by New York City call to place three times the amount of 5G Towers in Crown Heights, Boro Park and Flatbush compared to all other areas in Brooklyn, were drafted and approved by former mayor Bill DeBlasio’s administration.
Crown Heights Askanim are currently calling on Mayor Eric Adams administration to immediately pause the planned installment of these 5G towers until we can get the communities’ input.
“These extra 5G towers in Crown Heights might be a good idea, or they might not – we simply don’t have enough information yet,” the activists told COLlive.
The activists are calling on Crown Heights residents to speak out, as well as give their opinion on whether this plan is a good idea, they said.
“We are calling on the Office of Technology and Innovation NYC to hold a public town hall meeting in Crown Heights and hear the public’s input on what the local residents feel about this major project.”
Another frustrated Crown Heights resident put it more bluntly saying, “Mayor Adams is a very good mayor and a true friend to our community. Adams wants to do what’s best to help our community.
But there seems to be a level of complete lack of communication between his administration’s city agencies with the Crown Heights community.”
Just recently we had multiple CitiBike stations placed overnight on our streets with zero input from the community residents and no notice, they point out.
Other instances which had residents frustrated were multiple construction activities done on main roads in the neighborhood which closed down streets for many hours, done with barely any prior warning. Other construction on main avenues caused injuries to residents as well.
Other issues affecting our community stemming from a lack of communication are the new MTA City Bus routes planned for Albany Avenue and doubling the amount of city bus traffic on Empire Boulevard, residents say.
“There should be Jewish liaisons hired by this administration for each individual Jewish neighborhood to hear the residents’ concerns, one specifically for Crown Heights, one for Boro Park, one for Flatbush, and one for Williamsburg,” the Crown Heights activist says.
“We ask COLlive readers to tell us in the comments section below your opinion on this project to put many 5G phone towers in Crown Heights,” the activist concludes.
These towers are DEATHLY! We know that all too well from the towers on top of 706 Eastern Parkway. Do you all remember how many people Lo Aleinu passed away in that building from the dreaded disease. How can we have this UNPROPORTIONATE amount of towers in our neighborhood? This would never happen in Park Slope. PLEASE, ANASH WAKE UP! THIS IS DANGEROUS!!
Do you know how many of our young couples and small children live in these buildings these towers are being placed ? This disease does not limit itself to age. There is no guarantees in life but we must do what we can and FAST before it’s too late. What we we do to stop this!
This comment section is laughable. On what basis do y’all claim that 5G causes cancer? This is nutcase conspiracy stuff.
You’re all products of some of the worst educational institutions of the country, and it shows.
Sorry, I have a Ph.D. from UCLA. Please read some of the actual clinical findings.
self-hating jews
Jews who talk down to other Jews
pride themselves on c”v being more like the goyim, with the “other” Jews backwards and not knowledgeable
and think they are better than other
This is nothing new…there are others before you who have acted the same…see where that lead to
Moshiach is coming
do teshuva now
The Rebbe said that we need to go to doctors for medical questions so it’s not just that you aren’t knowledgeable, but you are also going against Hashem’s shluchim for healing
Sad that so many people in this community believe in ridiculous unscientific conspiracy theories about 5g.
5G IS SAFE.
Proven to be dangerous since 1980’s..Cell phone technology, like microw waves, work via radio waves. Leakage from this has been demonstrated since the 1980’s. The disproportionate amount of these towers in frum neighborhoods is alarming. What safeguards are in place to shield 5hr towers from excess radiation leaks? The refusal to get the permission of the residents is also alarming. Total lack of respect and/or malicious intent. Thie dangers of leaking radio waves has been proven, not a conspiracy ‘theory’ at all! (I worked for Jack Anderson/Les Whitten, D.C. investigative reporters (muckrakers), in the 70’s-80’s, and I saw the scientific… Read more »
Radiofrequency energy from wireless devices and networks, including radiofrequencies used by 5G, have not been shown to cause health problems, according to the international scientific community. To cite one example, the Food and Drug Administration said, “Based on the FDA’s ongoing evaluation, the available epidemiological and cancer incidence data continues to support the Agency’s determination that there are no quantifiable adverse health effects in humans caused by exposures at or under the current cell phone exposure limits.”
Basically the microwave in your kitchen is more likely to give you cancer than 100 5G towers.
You are very wrong, hi tech facilities are known to be cancer causing
They do produce radiation
Well, a city that installs multiple drug shelters right in our neighborhood, does not prosecute criminals, and enforces alternate side parking 4 to 5 time a week is not going to take safety precautions for our neighborhood. That’s a given. The only thing that can fight this is a class action lawsuit BEFORE they take this intentional and offensive action. Are we prepared to go through with it?
We need to do whatever we can to stop this
The map is not clear. Can you tell us where exactly the current AND proposed towers are?
Who can we contact and what is their info?
One of these is right next to Bais Rivkah HS where I work, and one is half a block from my apartment. Serious health concerns.
There are community laisons. Eli Slavin is one. He is in city payroll as the crown heights community liason.. feel free to contact him and address your concerns as that is why he is being paid. Its your tax dollars as work
Hi it would be more effective to call your City representative. This can be found by going to NYC Council and then going to Find my Member or District. Type in your address using commas. There are 3 City Council Members that represent Crown Heights. Also make a 311 first.
If anything, we need this radiation reduced,we’re managing without it,why is it being forced on the community, citizens have rights
For those that understand, light is also a “radio wave – on the spectrum of waves” the radio waves being emmited with 5g are far less harmful that the radio waves the are emitted in light. They are just weaker waves and need more poles that are closer to the user, hence the reason they were never installed till now.
Keep it weak by not installing poles near us to make it stronger
Really now? I’ve never seen any FCC radiation ratings on lightbulbs but you do see them on wireless products.
FCC ratings are to ensure that radio signals do not interrupt each other, making sure that your phone call stays yours. Light bulbs don’t have this issue.
I didn’t realize informed citizens read COL. This is correct.
1 Radio waves are a subcategory of electromagnetic radiation. Visible light is actually a different subcategory of electromagnetic radiation. Note I said visible light. All forms of radiation are also forms of light but usually ppl just say electromagnetic radiation. 2. There are dangerous forms of electromagnetic waves. Xray or UV light is an example. It’s important to not that most dangerous waves are at frequencies high Above those of visible light not below. 3. There are electromagnetic frequencies that are definitely safe. Examples of these include all visible light. No one would say we should avoid green because of… Read more »
Solar radiation causes skin cancer. Cancel the sun?
If your house was surrounded by 100 5G towers, you’d still be more likely to get cancer from the microwave in your kitchen that you bought voluntarily. Every study done ever concludes that there is ZERO correlation between cellular radiation and cancer. People who think differently should get off facebook and read an actual scientific document.
Like this one for example https://www.fda.gov/media/135043/download
I dont agree with this tower thing,Its not necessary
H ISHMOR!
Did u read the end of the Tania today?
Everything the goyim do it for their own benefit!
WE MUST HAVE MOSHIACH NOW
That tells you enough
He does not have the best interest of Jews in mind
This is terrible and I really really hope it will be stopped
He is not the Mayor anymore
How can we vote not to have this???
This will cause more people to get sick with cancer
We need. A mass demonstration
Where is the Vaad Hakol on this
Nah we need some of the many Chaya raichiks type of talent to please step up and come up with actual solutions that are effective. We don’t need to put up with this abuse and hazard. Any lawyers, computer engineers, electricians, construction guys up to the task? Make yourselves ungovernable. Cause the Torah says: when someone rises to kill you…
Please reàd this post to get some direction
5G has never given anyone cancer. It’s a radio frequency. It’s like saying “Listening to a Tanya shiur through bluetooth earphones will give you cancer”. The fact that people think 5G causes cancer is even more concerning than the towers being put up. Get off facebook, read some actual scientific data, and maybe throw out your microwave if you feel unsafe.
Who can we contact about this?
This is right near where I work and live, and right near so many schools. We know way too many people who passed away from these dreaded towers. I would rather skip the wifi.
311 and then contact your Council Member, go to NYC Council, and look for find my representative. Type in your address using commas. Reach out and ask what they can do. Mention this is Time Sensitive
But naive. Unfortunately our council members are not the answer in this neighborhood and never have been. It would be great if we could just contact a council member and have fair representation. Judicial action is the only way the community has any slight chance of protecting itself.. though NYC courts being what they are..
Pikachu nefesh. If we don’t manage to stop them by complaining, we should go destroy them by force
We do not need this in our area.
Kids can receive Free WIFI without any parental control. Everyone agrees (religious or non-religious) that this is dangerous to our children.
MUST parents please speak up!!
It isn’t a wifi router, it just makes that if someone has internet service/data on the their phone, it’s stronger and faster
So unhealthy!!!!
Please put a stop to it!!!
I don’t want it
You’re not the only person who exists. It doesn’t matter who’s idea it was. Why is having faster internet on your phone such a terrible thing (and before you make a fool of yourself by saying 5G causes cancer, do a little research, facebook research doesn’t count)
I prefer having low cell connection than get all the radiation it emits daily and have the health compromised
Using a microwave 1 time does more damage to your body than 5 years of cellular radiation. Having faster cellular speed doesn’t increase radiation levels either. Do a tiny bit of research, you won’t find a single study from a reputable source that says there’s a correlation between cellular radiation and health problems.
CH is definitely underserved. Phone and internet are doing fine though. We are underserved in other areas we want to be served in.
Let them ask us what we need and want before throwing random intentions at us. Forget the radiation the graffiti and the vandalism for a minute. This is a project that will potentially cost hundreds of thousands of tax dollars. Let them poll the residents of CH. If we’d rather they use the money on cell phone towers or on prosecuting multiple offense criminals. Would love to see the results of that survey.
NO !
We have a new one on my block. It’s unsafe for radiation and has attracted a whole new population of homeless people .
The radiation is completely safe, and those homeless people were already there. You’re seeing what you want to see, and not listening to the truth.
It’s not unsafe. It’s never been unsafe. It definitely doesn’t “attract homeless people”. Maybe you could use those faster internet speeds to read some scientific documents on the subject instead of regurgitating facebook comments.
The disproportionate amount of towers being put in Crown Heights, Boro Park and Flatbush sounds like a wicked plot to harm Yidden.
This won’t cause cancer, that’s not how science works.
This is a positive step towards equality and representation.
Internet access should be attainable for all, not just the wealthy. Everyone deserves access to a means of greater education and information.
And if this topic is what you’re so concerned about when there is war, disease, global warming, human rights abuses and crimes against humanity being carried out at this very moment, then your priorities are backwards.
V’dal
But some people use it to better their understanding of the world around them. You should try it.
You’ve been commenting a lot and desperately supporting the towers. I wonder who’s paying you?? Brainwashed into believing that the city knows what’s best for you and lacking all knowledge of physics and biology.
Internet access should be attainable for all,
Why? On what basis?
so that we can all access a fair distribution of current events and education. so that all children can take classes over zoom. so that all people can stay in touch with distant family.
There’s also systemic racism, the patriarchy, lack of gun control, discrimination, anti-Semitism, and the war against women.
But here this community is, in an uproar over a fair distribution of internet access that has never, ever, ever been proven to cause any sort of disease or sickness or illness. Bunch of geniuses.
…animal cruelty (such as lions killing defenseless animals), the sun becoming a red giant, and the heat death of the universe. All things that Deep Thinkers should be worried about.
You’re so willing to believe false claims that the internet somehow magically causes cancer, but you refuse to accept the actual proof from real scientists that global warming is real? Time to open a book.
Where are you seeing anything in my post (to which you’re responding) about cancer or global warming? The poster above me listed several things to be worried about, and I added a few more.
So maybe ask yourself: if in a simple four-line comment you’re seeing things that aren’t there, what other hokum are you falling for because of a lack of critical thinking skills?
Is there a single woke buzzword that you haven’t used? I happen to agree that internet access is perfectly safe but my goodness enough with the bumper sticker slogans and cliches and learn to make your arguments with actual evidence and sound reasoning before concluding that everyone is stupid
These aren’t buzzwords, these are real world issues going on today. Conservatives came up with the term “woke” because it would sound pretty terrible to call someone out for being moral. Progressives and liberals are the only hope this country has of surviving.
The term “woke” was first used by said “progressives.” Only because normal people realize how much hokum and woo there is in it, and how little actual thinking, has it become a pejorative.
Imagine not understanding irony
Nonsense of global warming lefty propaganda. It’s freezing outside. We are in danger of criminals being let out without bail after getting arrested dozens of times.
It being cold outside has absolutely zero meaning or relevance when discussing global warming. It sounds like you don’t even know what global warming is or what type of impact it has on the environment.
It has a lot of relevance. Is it hot? Proof of global warming. Is it cold? Same thing. Are there more hurricanes? We’re killing the earth! Are there fewer? Also proof of how bad things are!
These towers are dangerous and should be kept far away!
Prove it
No one needs to prove anything to you.
Does any one know concrete steps we can take ASAP to stop this ? Who to call or numbers or email address?
Step in the concrete of the pole and unstabilise it.
If it was all about better wifi ask yourself why do you need FOURTEEN towers in a ten block radius? Either the tower works or it doesn’t. If it works, one tower should be strong enough to cover the entire community. In fact, one tower is strong enough to cover the entire state if not multiple states. There are serious health concerns from the radiation it emits. I also didn’t ask for a Link kiosk to be installed on my block and attract even more homeless people. CH has so many so called activists and community board members that love… Read more »
Hahaha, one tower enough to cover the entire state?! So sad that Lubavitchers, along with many frum people, have bought into the craziest conspiracies around today. We need Moshiach now!
Can’t wait for the high speed internet
Finally somebody here has their head screwed on straight
There is no correlation between these towers and cancer. You get more exposure from using a cell phone then these towers and neither have been found to cause any increase in cancer since is it a non-ionizing radiation which you also get from radios. If you’re going to argue against it at least know what you’re talking about.
You sir are genuinely stupid
You sir should bring actual scientific proof for why you think he’s wrong instead of insulting the man.
Huge health hazard.
At what number could Mr Slavin be reached?
Maybe she can speak to her buddy Gov Hochul and tell her our community is AGAINST this deathly idea. It’s called Kill the Jews in technological terms.
This is unhealthy and not needed.
We have lots of doctors and scientists in the global community. Has conclusive health research been done yet from reliable sources that states that 5G towers on our sidewalks do not pose a health risk?
According to the following article from the NIH in 2020, many scientists wanted that use of 5G be paused until conclusive health research could be conducted from reliable sources who do not have a COI (conflict of interest).
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7405337/
This article from 2020 also states that more research is needed:

I am a cancer survivor. A while back I tried to move into an apartment in CH. I was there one night and had to move out, I felt so sick. I wondered why. Why? Because there were routers on three sides, and somehow that apartment was a trap for some kind of radiation emissions. I got the bends, I had to move out right away. I have never felt so sick in my life. For about a week after that, I could not be near any monitors or Wifi devices of any kind. After that experience where I felt… Read more »

Naive and not constructive
Do not approve of wifi access forteens to sit on city corners and veg out. Teens need healthy outlets. Let them spend that same money on a local ymca instead
Don’t buy your kid a phone. 5G towers have nothing to do with “teens sitting on corners and vegging out”. If your kid is doing this, it’s your fault as a parent, not the city’s fault.
B”H
We don’t agree with any of these towers being installed in Crown Heights. Please do the impossible to avert this plan.
this is awful. i want to move out of crown heights.
I think that’s their plan.
Speak up NOW.
We always ask the gov for things, and then when they give it to us – people complain.
Every heard of hakoras hatov?! I’m shocked people believe these trumpy conspiracy theories about 5G towers releasing poisons.
land of the uneducated trump supporters

There’s a difference between calling people names, and being able to admit that there are a lot of people in Crown Heights who are uneducated on the subject, and instead of trying to learn about it, they just repeat what they hear their friends say (which is usually nonsense)
For having something dangerous that we dont want forced on us ?
Please explain why you think it’s dangerous, and please provide some proof to back your claims.
I didn’t realize DeBlasio was capable of giving Yidden things!!
Happy Chanukah Yidden!
Absolutely, DO NOT WANT THEM!
Please sieze the construction of these towers! Proven to cause cancer R”L and infertility. Some people are more sensitive to it than others. We are not interested in the risks.
We should bring an Article 78 proceeding to have the Courts review the Mayor’s decision.
As a resident of Crown Heights who pays taxes, I should have a say in what the government uses my money towards. And especially if they plan to use it for something that many of us have health concerns about, who is the government to decide that they can stick these towers in our area because they think that’s what we deserve. Hello???
These towers should not be put up, we don’t need the better connection. Our health is more important.
These city towers are being put on NYC city owned streets and sidewalks of CH, let them do this in another neighborhood, we want our city owned streets not to have these.
These comments showcase just how lacking in basic education most Jews in this neighborhood are. Maybe greater internet access will allow more of you to educate yourselves.
They didn’t come up with these conspiracies by themselves. They actually get these ideas from all kinds of people from the internet instead of asking their own doctors for medical advice. You don’t need to know everything in order to make the best decisions, just know to ask the right people.

I always heard how bad these towers are but after reading your comment I thought to myself maybe it’s just hearsay.
So I did a quick Google search and you are the one to be embarrassed. Article after reputable article talks about the possible dangers in these towers. I’m not going to argue my science vs your science, but there is a strong basis to be concerned about these cellphone towers.
Maybe you’re the one who needs more education.
Who are the activists working on preventing this? And how does the rest of the community get involved with those activists?
I do not agree with the towers! There is research done about how bad the towers are for being in their proximity. Please don’t bring them to crown heights, we are a community that prides ourselves on low wifi usage. It is unnecessary in our community, and also not safe physically.
I beg you who ever can have an influence, please get these towers removed. We do NOT want them. I don’t need science to prove that it’s harmful, I’m sensitive to it, and I feel the radiation myself, IT IS HARMFUL!!!!!
What you’re feeling is solar radiation. From the sun. That big yellow thing in the sky that’s always been there. (far more harmful than 5G)
Maybe not… Maybe it’s the microwave in your kitchen… (Also far more harmful than 5g)
It’s physically impossible to feel radio waves. Your comment is more harmful than 5G.
This is not “free wifi” towers that are being put up that now all the teens and kids will have unlimited access to the internet. They are towers which give 5g (faster than what was before – 4g) internet service to your phone using waves that already exist, the towers just pick up on it. The more towers, the better the coverage in the area. Most people complaining probably use their cellphones daily using 4g data and now this is just faster and better… 5g has been around for a while and the city is just giving crown heights better… Read more »

These towers are just so ugly! NO.
What’s really inside those “towers״.
They’ve been proven to contain gain-of-function mini labs. If you search online, you can find a photo of a PCB from a downed tower laser-inscribed with “COVID-19.” I’d also recommend looking into Rand Paul’s thorough takedowns of Dr. Fauci, about his ties to Verizon wireless.
There is every reason to believe that both the health risk and the fact that wifi hotspots it attracts the homeless drug addicts to our neighborhood is all intentional. Unscrupulous people who believe they can get away without consequences are behind this. Legal action is the only way to stop this.
The transmissions of each of these towers affect an area of one quarter of a mile minimum. Meaning that the existing ‘Links’ will completely saturate the small section of a Jewish crown heights regardless of where you live.
CORRUPTION.
who really needs this?
why are they building all these “LINKS”?
it’s a waste of taxpayer money, besides the health risks.
who’s allocating these wasteful projects?
Have to, have to – educate yourselves. Why on this earth would they elect to give the JEWS these 5G towers. Is it because they love the JEWS (in these Jewish areas)? Or, is it anti-semitism (wanting to harm – if not straight away then with sickness, cancer, foggy thinkingm headaches, frying with radiation etc?) If we think the cell towers on top of buildings in C.H are not a good thing – those are NEWBORN compared to 5G towers. This is what the military can inflict on the enemies type-thing. Better technology and reception is the excuse to inflict… Read more »

Good because it will being with it more security cameras and thus less crime , and maybe further gentrification.
2 jews, 3 opinions …
…and unsightly.
Using only health concerns that have not been proven against this idea may get you nowhere and can put CH in negative light.
Thanking them for their concern for the undeserving community and presenting a solid alternative plan to help the poor residents without compromising the neighbourhood safety in any way, will not only show them CH is not to be messed with, but will also provide insight as to what their real intentions are and will pave the way for lawsuit if necessary.
Sechel followed by well placed action is what’s always needed.
We the citizens and the majority do not need to please powerful leaders whos position is to represent our needs. We don’t need to bow to them. There’s nothing to appreciate since we strongly as a majority do not want this and it is not in our interests. We also need community leaders with a backbone that aren’t in it for their own self interests. From now on we should vote against who our photo op hungry “community leaders” advise us to vote for.
5G is terribly unhealthy and causes all sorts of health problems.
It’s a death sentence,

Here a an exhaustive list of studies done that prove 5G is dangerous
Don’t trust the science, trust the science!

I’m more sensitive to EMF radiation than most, and feel sick when in close proximity to the existing 5G towers.
On a number of occasions I’ve been in an unfamiliar area and body sensations alerted me to the presence of towers.
Increased ear pressure, nausea and burning sensations of skin.
These frequencies are absorbed by everybody whether we feel it or not. Scientific studies have proven this and we as a community need to stand up for the safety of our children, elderly and everyone in between.
This isTERRIBLE NEWS!
What’s even worse, is the ignorance of too many people, in this community.

As a chassid, computer scientist, and software engineer, I support these towers being put up. They will provide benefit to all those who work in technology, and will not affect anyone who does not wish to use the internet etc. Anyone who is telling you to be afraid of 5G towers is simply mistaken.
