Republican Scott Brown has won a surprise victory Tuesday in the race for the U.S. Senate seat in Massachusetts left vacant by Democrat Edward Kennedy‘s death.
Democrat Martha Coakley conceded she had lost the race after early results gave Brown a healthy lead.
The Republican win has robbed the Democrats of their filibuster-proof 60-seat majority in the Senate and was seen as a huge blow to President Barack Obama, whose healthcare reform program is now in doubt.
In a celebratory speech, Brown said that the voters of Massachusetts had “delivered a great victory.”
He said: “Tonight, the independent voice of Massachusetts has spoken. The voters of this commonwealth defied the odds and the experts.”
Attending the victory rally was Rabbi Moshe Bleich, Director of Wellesley Weston Chabad House in Massachusetts, who hosted Brown in the past.
Bleich told COLlive.com Tuesday night that Brown thanked him for his blessings and asked to send regards to the Bleich family.
Brown has been attending Chabad sponsored events for the past 7 years, and has become close to its members. At one point he played on the Chabad Shlugger softball team.
“He is the nicest guy in town,” says Bleich, who acknowledges that some of his members did not vote for the Republican Brown as “this is the most Dem state in the US.”
“It was an actual madhouse there tonight, with so many people,” Bleich told COLlive.com about the rally.
“There would have been no way for me to get to him if had not seen me in the crowd and literally called me up.”
Go Rabbi Bleich!!!

Go Chabad Shluggers!!!!!

Re: #11
I don’t claim to know what the future will bring re:ObamaCare, but Hashem is telling us a message that He and only He controls things. Not only is the Democrats’ Senate super majority gone, it was lost through a seat that belonged to ObamaCare’s biggest supporter in the Senate and was considered the least likely to change parties, as it had been filled by a Democrat for almost 40 years and it belonged to a state where nearly all elected officials are Democrats.
Oh, and congrats, R’ Moishy.
