In a significant leadership change, Yeshiva Schools of Pittsburgh has announced the appointment of Mrs. Bayla Blumstein as the new Judaic Principal of the Girls High School, effective for the 2024-2025 school year. Mrs. Blumstein, formerly principal at Chaya Mushka Girls High School in Detroit, is set to bring her extensive experience and dynamic vision to the renowned Pittsburgh institution.
Mrs. Blumstein has a robust background in Jewish education, with twenty years dedicated to Shlichus and Chinuch roles. During her eight-year tenure in Detroit, she spearheaded notable developments, including the expansion of the school’s dormitory and the creation of programs that cater to both the emotional and academic needs of students. Her leadership has been marked by a personal touch, fostering enduring relationships with students and parents alike.
Rabbi Yarden Blumstein, Mrs. Blumstein’s husband, will also join the Yeshiva Schools community. He will serve as a teacher in the Pittsburgh Mesivta and as a student counselor for both the girls’ high school and the boys’ Mesivta, working closely with the school’s Wellness Division. Rabbi Blumstein brings valuable experience from his previous role at Frankel Jewish Academy and as the director of UMatter, an organization dedicated to teen emotional health under the Friendship Circle.
“We are excited to welcome Mrs. Bayla Blumstein and Rabbi Yarden Blumstein to our school community,” said Rabbi Yossi Rosenblum, Head of Yeshiva Schools. “Their combined experience and dedication to Jewish education and mental health will greatly enhance our institution and provide our students with a comprehensive and nurturing educational experience.”
Expressing their enthusiasm about the move, the Blumsteins said, “We are honored to join Yeshiva Schools and look forward to contributing to the vibrant community in Pittsburgh. We are committed to continuing the tradition of excellence and nurturing the academic and personal growth of each student.”
This announcement coincides with the retirement of Mrs. Batsheva Deren, who has been a cornerstone of Yeshiva Schools for forty-three years, where she served as Judaic principal of the girl’s high school. Mrs. Deren’s tenure began in 1981, and she has since influenced the lives of countless students, many of whom have grown into community leaders themselves. Her legacy is one of profound dedication and transformative impact.
“We are indebted to Mrs. Deren for her many years of tireless leadership and devotion,” Rabbi Rosenblum added. “We are truly witnessing the end of an era, and we wish her ever-increasing Brachos and successes in the next stage of her life.”
With these changes, Yeshiva Schools looks forward to a future filled with growth and new opportunities, building on the strong foundation laid by Mrs. Deren and welcoming the fresh perspectives of the Blumsteins.
Applications are still being accepted for the upcoming school year for the girls’ high school and boys’ Mesivta. Visit www.YeshivaSchools.com for more information.
