By Hindy Lewis, Director of Secular Studies department at Machon Menucha High School in Jerusalem
As the school year gallops towards us, some parents are faced with the unenviable and painful reality: the only school accepting their daughter is the one where she will be lost in the system; even worse, it is where she will lose herself.
As has been said so many times by many educators, parents and students, there is no system that works for everyone. So we at Machon Menucha, in Jerusalem have developed a system, while not revolutionary in education, addresses that issue of cookie-cutter classrooms: We don’t have any.
Our school actively recruits junior high and high school girls whose personality, talents and abilities require a more individual approach. Gifted students or those who learn better in less traditional/formal learning environments have the chance to blossom.
Their achievements are recognized, no matter their circumstances, names or family bank account. I’m sure you have noticed the same girls are routinely chosen for leadership roles.
Perhaps it really is time to bite the bullet and look into Machon Menucha. Yes, we are a new school, opening in Jerusalem on September 1.
We have luxurious dorm accommodations in a secure building right by Machane Yehuda; it is big enough for classes. Our afternoon Enrichment Program offers exciting extra-curricular activities ranging from personal style, cooking, aerobics/pilates, dance, drama etc. There are Shabbatons, trips, Shabbosim in different communities, all under the auspices of Chabad.
If your daughter is succeeding in her current school, please don’t fix something that isn’t broken. She’s happy, leave her. But if she is stressed, unhappy, hates going and is not succeeding no matter how hard she tries – talk to us. If Machon Menucha is a solid option, that is good. If not, we may know of another possibility.
I can be reached on 718-771-6886, Israel 972-58-500-3111 or by email [email protected].
Bite that bullet – don’t fire the gun or do nothing. Your daughter’s future depends on it!
Can we see inside the school?
Hindy- I’m sooooo happy for you! Good luck!
