Within 48 hours since COLlive.com reported about the new Kolel opening in Crown Heights, close to 40 qualifying applications were received for young men who would like to join.
The new “Kolel L’Horaa Maasis – Crown Heights” aims to teach, educate and train Lubavitcher Yungeleit who seek to dedicate their lives to practical Rabonus, thus the Kolel will not only study the Halacha, but also the practical applications of Halacha.
Each of the students of the Kolel, founded by Rabbi Shloime Greenwald, will be sponsored by donors from Crown Heights, who have committed to supporting this new institution of learning.
The Rosh Kolel will be Rabbi Sholom Ber Shuchat, Dayan in Beis Din Agudas Harabonim and the Beis Din of Vaad Harabonim of Queens. The Sgan Rosh Kolel will be Rabbi Shraga Homnick, renowned scholar and Magid Shiur in Crown Heights.
Registration closed on Thursday. After a thorough review of the applicants, it was determined that at least 25 of them are prime candidates to become future Rabonim in Chabad.
At a meeting today at Beis Gimpel in Crown Heights, there the Kollel will be operating, Rabbis Shuchat, Homnick and Greenwald decided to expand the Kolel from 14 to 25 Yungeleit.
So far 17 Baale Batim have pledged to each sponsor one Yungerman, 8 more Torah-loving sponsors are needed.
Bale batim who would like to join as donors so that the kolel can expand, please email [email protected] .
The kolel members will each receive $1250 a month, and “we hope as well to very soon up the salaries of each yungerman to give them a respectable pay,” Rabbi Greenwald told COLlive.
The Kolel undertaking is rather incredible. The brochos from Hashem for this project will be great. The blessings should come forth from our Rebbe in special ways!!
