Crown Heights continues to solidify its new reputation as a kosher food destination – and the owner of a new unique shop knows a thing or two about food as an attraction for high class travelers.
The Werner brothers, the family behind KMR Tours which offers luxury kosher vacations, is opening a new dairy café and gourmet ice cream shop in the heart of the Chassidic neighborhood.
The Werners have recently purchased the 21 Flavors frozen yogurt shop from local food entrepreneur Yossi Gershovitz located at 423 Kingston Avenue, between Montgomery and Empire Boulevards.
The new owners have plans for a gourmet dairy experience “like no other in the Kosher industry,” they explain.
The upscale décor is still being designed, as the restaurant will undergo extensive renovations before it opens.
The centerpiece of the restaurant will be all natural, freshly made gourmet ice cream and gelato in flavors like strawberry, mango, passion fruit, praline chocolate, caramel, halavah and more, the new owners told COLlive.
“Our ice cream will be unlike any other in the Kosher industry, since it will be all natural, made from scratch, and the actual ingredient – such as fruit, chocolate and caramel – making up most of the cream. Other ice creams are a base of vanilla with flavor thrown in.”
Ice cream will also be available with 6 types of toppings, such as milk chocolate, white chocolate, caramel, peanut butter and more.
But customers won’t leave hungry with just desserts. The restaurant will also serve a full menu of gourmet pastries, soups, salads and sandwiches.
Pastries will be created by renowned pastry chef Udi Ezra, the full time pastry chef for KMR luxury vacations. Ezra was a chef at Basil Restaurant when it first opened, creating their first breakfast menu, pastries and desserts menu.
The Café will also offer delectable salads, such as pecan-mango green salad or grilled salmon salad, which will be accompanied by freshly baked corn bread or garlic bread. Hearty soups will be made daily. Fresh dairy pastries will include scones, danishes and 6 types of cheesecake.
They will also serve a full line of fine gourmet Italian coffee, Espresso, hot chocolate, shakes and smoothies.
Ezra says they plan to open the new store in mid-May 2016.
Now there will everyone will be eating Chlovev Yisroel! Yeah!
Whatever Hashgacha they take will be the best because I’ve worked with KMR and Udi and these guys take kashrut very seriously, very profesional, and are very careful, clean, and machmere. Stand up guys.
I hope they will be under the chk
Wishing you much Hatzlacha Udi

Seriously? So don’t eat there! Going out to eat doesn’t mean every meal, it’s moderation. I feel sorry for you that you deprive yourself of treats sometimes. Look at the French they eat whole fat dairy and drink wine, and cheeses and eat pastries and aren’t fat. Everything in moderation. You want healthy food eat at home, some people want to enjoy and have an ice cream once in a while, at least with this cafe it’ll be worth it bc it’ll be the best ice cream.
We need some high quality food without sugar. A place like that would not only be very successful but will be doing a huge favor for the health of the community. Food does not have to have sugar for it to be top quality and tasty. Sugar is poisoning the population and is the cause of many health problems
Hey, all that’s missing in Crown Heights is a little more SUGAR!!!
Hope there will be some gourme foods made naturally without natural sugar!!!!
What wonderful people I have been going to Banff and Vail with my family for many years what a spectacular experience being with KMR they are fantastic and with the service they give and their Dikduk in Kashrus they will be Matzliach Chutz L’Derech Hateive Brochos ad Bli Dai from CS and Family
Yes the ice cream sounds excellent, delicious, superior – and as healthy as you can get…but what caught my eye as a wheat-free person was the corn bread! thanks so much. It’s frustrating in so many kosher places to find no substitute for the wheat bread. So wonderful that there will be corn bread available. I can’t wait for my next visit to Crown Heights. Hatzlocha Rabo Werners!
For right after my Smicha test
I’ll be right over

This is going to be a great meeting place, date place too!
He makes the best kosher gelato and desserts out there. Tried all the big dairy and Parve places and he’s on a whole other level. Also makes the best Cholov Yisroel croissants and scones, I used to get them all the time when he was at Basil, I really missed them. He was the one who first made basil ice cream!
wow very nice Mazel Tov looking forward to it
Really excited to try it out
Hatzlocha!
How very exciting is it to hear about a classy venue for a breakfast or for a good cappuccino opening in CH; definitely something we’ve been missing for a while.
Looking forward to patronizing you!
I’ll be right over, from Boro park
Hatzlacha!
I’ve had his cheesecakes before and they are amazing, I’m still dreaming about the dulce de leche one! He definitely makes the best ice creams out there. For a place at the Werner and this chefs level in CH, this is big. Can’t wait.
Please be under CHK and serve high-end coffee!!!
Definitely will stop by …
we have an upscale ice cream parlour in Machane Yehuda Shuk in Jerusalem–Rose Petal Ice Cream, Saffron, Pomegranate and Cocoa/Mandarin ice and more. done very well and not over the top. after you eat it, one doesn’t feel sick, but nicely satiated. And at another store all kinds of halvah, you wouldn’t believe. it’s a win-win situation. you are home, supporting Israel. Further by being here and eating these delights it’s like bringing heaven down to earth
LA has great milchig restaurants already.
I’ve been to many KMR programs and the Werners pay attention to every detail. Udi Ezra makes the best gelato in the kosher world and I’m sure it’s comparable to a NYC gelato place. He makes amazing pastries and desserts. Very excited to try the place. The Werners and Udi are some of the nicest people there are so I wish them all the hatzlacha.
After this opens up..Someone will have to open x large plus plus store.after eating these amazing desserts who is going to fit in regular clothing..
I’m so excited for this cafe!! I can’t wait to try all the ice cream flavors! I can’t wait:)
LA is genug shoin !!!!!
We have awesome restaurants & weather.
I don’t miss Crown Heights.
I’m a shliach in a small town in USA I am so hungry, but there are no restaurantS around. So I took a bite at the burger place below the Chinese place, and now I just helped myself to some dessert at the new place on top…Please would any of these places deliver?
Thank You…

Please bring some of this amazingness to LA! Sorely lacking and something like Basil or Zak or would be so successful! Crown Heights has enough.
Can’t wait for some real authentic ice cream 😀
The Los Angeles kosher community can use a really good dairy restaurant as there’s a shortage of dairy eateries. Any investors interested?
