A Chabad Shliach was one of many Jewish leaders, decision makers and thinkers from around the world who gathered for a conference with the goal of fashioning a strategic perspective for the Jewish people in light of the threats, challenges and opportunities.
Last week’s “Conference on the Future of the Jewish People” in Jerusalem was organized by the Jewish People Policy Institute (JPPI) with the participation of Israeli President Shimon Peres as Honorary Chair.
Rabbi Levi Shemtov, Chabad’s Shliach in Washington, DC, and Executive Vice President of American Friends of Lubavitch, was there as a participant and speaker on a pannel about increasing Jewish identity in th Diaspora.
The JPPI leadership is headed by Russian-Jewish philanthropist Leonid Nevzlin and U.S. Ambassador Stuart Eizenstat, a personal friend of Shemtov and his father Rabbi Avraham Shemtov, the Rebbe‘s Shliach to the White House.
JPPI presents its policy recommendations to Peres and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, along with the leaders of Jewish organizations and communities around the world.
According to Avinoam Bar-Yosef, founding Director of JPPI, “The conference participants intend to shape together a wide strategic conception for the Jewish People to ensure a thriving future.”
During the session, Rabbi Levi Shemtov has a chance to confer with some of the Israeli leaders, among them Defense Minister Ehud Barak, Opposition and Kadima leader Tzipi Livni, Vice Premier and Minister of Strategic Affairs Bogie Ya’alon, Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon, Jewish Agency Head Natan Sharansky and others.
Speaking to Prime Minister Netanyahu, Shemtov related to him what a Kiddush Hashem the Prime Minister created when he recalled last year that the Rebbe’s words to him on a Simchas Torah inspired his speech to the U.S. General Assembly.
“It’s true!” Netanyahu replied noting that it was no surprise. “What the Rebbe told me then is true.”
Shemtov added that Israel’s Ambassador to the U.S. Michael Oren spent Hakafos at Chabad DC this year and told participants that Netanyahu had also spoken to him about the Rebbe’s words.

Oh please. Stop with politics. Chabad is apolitics by nature and Bibi is making a fun of Chabad. Everytime he wants something, he quotes the Rebbe to calm down Chabad Rabbonim and to obtain Chabad votes, but in our back, he is stabbing us. Stop with all this. Open your eyes. Chabad and Israeli politics is a very dangerous game.
he did say that you must be light in a place of darkness
he said it in context of seeing the light of committing suicide by formulating a “palestinian” terror state
soo much for this light
he used the story to be mitaher a scorpion a dangerous sheretz

Lieberman, may he be blessed, said it the way things are, and every one saw the truth in it, and he stands up to whats really right in the interest of the Jewish people and not afraid to say it, as the rest of the politicians, hopefully it will be seen the blessing he deserves.
Become strong!
But he doesn’t listen to the Rebbe’s words in his policies. The very notion of even talking about the possibility of a palestinian state endagers the lives of all jews living in Eretz yisroel including Bibi himself. the Arabs have made it very clear what they would g-d forbid do with statehood; use it as a platform to wage war against us jews. It does not matter wat the world says, our lives are at stake. on the contrary standing strong for our rights will ultimately bring respect. Giving in to pressure only demonstrates weakness and invites more pressure and… Read more »

Its no chochmo for a lubavitcher to say the rebbe’s words are true…when you hear it from an outsider thats a kiddush lubavitch. One the same note when ppl say the israeli leaders didnt or dont listen to rebbe, we lubavitchers didnt, dont listen to the rebbe we expect them to!?!
