Neshamos is pleased to announce that they have secured partial funding from the UJA Federation’s Community Grants program to start an anonymous men’s support group for survivors of Child Sexual Abuse (CSA).
Neshamos is a non-profit organization founded to remove the stigma and offer support for those in our community suffering from trauma, mental health, and addiction issues.
In addition to providing resources and support to those who need it, Neshamos believes that by educating our community on these issues, we can dispel the stigma, shame, and feelings of isolation felt by those struggling in our community.
Neshamos’s goal in initiating this group comes from the immense stigma men face in getting the help and support they need to overcome the trauma experienced from child sexual abuse. Many survivors of CSA suffer in silence, which harms their relationship with themselves and others. Neshamos’s support group hopes to provide its participants with a sense of community to relieve the feelings of guilt, shame, isolation, and loneliness.
The group will be facilitated by Hillel Sternstein, LCSW, a highly experienced social worker with decades of experience working with survivors of sexual abuse in the frum community in both one-on-one and group settings.
The 10-session support group will focus on the 3 C’s: Competency, Comfort, & Connection. In offering this vital resource to men in our community, Neshamos hopes to help survivors find competency and comfort in connecting with themselves, fellow survivors, and their families and loved ones.
This group is open to any male survivors of child sexual abuse, ages 23+ from any frum community, irrespective of current religious status. Each of the 10 sessions will take place virtually, on Zoom, at 7:30 PM every Tuesday. Participants are required to disclose their identity to the group facilitator, but may choose to remain anonymous during group sessions.
There will be a small fee of $10 per session. Subsidies are available by request on a limited case-by-case basis.
