Young and old gathered recently at the home of Dovid and Malki Smetana in Crown Heights for another “event of joy” organized by activist Mrs. Devora Scheiner.
A group of home-bound ‘special’ boys and girls and middle-aged and senior women enjoyed an evening of song, inspiration and joy.
Rabbi Dr. Alter Metzger, professor of Jewish Studies at Stern College, opened with a Dvar Torah connecting current affairs with the infinite wisdom in the Torah and Chassidus.
For entertainment, Fitche Benshimon on the keyboard, Yonasan Rothman with a violin and Pinchos Cohen with a clarinet played many classic and current songs and niggunim, including A Yiddishe Mame.

Fitchke, you are the best. Very talented both in playing and in singing. We enjoy every wedding we go to that you are playing at. Your singing is great and your Chazanus is beautiful. If you audition for a jewish star, you will win for the adults and your cousin Sefi Kalmanson will win for the Jr. That would be cool.
