Welcome to Monday Torah, a stimulating class by Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Jacobson, one of the most sought after speakers in the Jewish world today and spiritual leader of Congregation Bais Shmuel in Crown Heights.
The weekly video webcast is aired on TheYeshiva.net and COLlive.com each
Monday evening at 8:30 PM EST.
This week’s class delves into the strange prohibition not to ever remove the poles of the Aron, even when it remained in one place for 269 years. But why not?
The class explores six different approaches, from the Rambam to the Netziv, and concludes with the novel idea of the Rebbe on the subject.
“At a moment’s call, you have to be ready to bring the holiest Torah to the furthest place on earth,” the Rebbe explained.

I think the poles were to stay in because most were forbiden to touch the ark if they did they died. this keeps any accidental slipping ang reflex grabbing it to stop it from falling. If I remember only the priest or high priest were alowed to touch it, the jews being the chosen people of G were not the only people around. all the other tribes of Isreal at times were in the presence of the ark.
