The Beis Medrash in Crown Heights is launching a new series of “Gemara Skills” shiurim, sponsored by Yehudah Forster.
“I’ve been really enjoying the great selection of shiurim at TBM. I think TBM is filling a long- awaited need. I find the location to be very convenient and the learning to be superb,” says Forster, a frequenter of TBM.
The existing two gemara shiurim (advanced and intermediate) focus on covering ground while this new series of shiurim, titled “Gemara Skills” will focus on teaching the skills needed when learning Gemara.
“I felt like we were missing the groundwork for the Gemara. It’s important to learn Gemara in quantity but sometimes we need to slow down and focus on laying the groundwork. That’s why I initiated this shiur,” explains Forster.
People should be able to properly learn Gemara on their own and this shiur will focus on just that. The shiur will be given by the capable Rabbi Naftali Micholowsky.
Says Forster, “I’ve been learning from Rabbi Micholowsky for a while now and can attest that he is an exceptionally gifted teacher. He has a deep grasp of the Gemara, which he is able to impart to the student by building skills on a step by step basis.”
“I am grateful to Mr. Forster for his support in this area and IY”H we hope to create a similar shiur in Chassidus- one that will focus on teaching the skills needed to learn Chassidus independently,” says Rabbi Motty Lipskier. When asked what was holding him back from starting the Chassidus Skills shiur, Lipskier smiled, “Gelt, gelt! We need a sponsor to cover compensation for the maggid shiur, supplies for the class and other such expenses.”
You have to walk before you can run. Thank you to TBM for understanding this concept and acting on it.
This Yehuda Forster is right the money, last night’s shiur was great!
