Rabbi Shmuel Gurevitch, an elder Chossid who was from the first settlers of the Shikun chabad neighborhood in Lod, Israel, passed away Tuesday, 6 Shvat 5771.
He was 93.
Born to the famed Chossid and Mashpia Rabbi Yitzchak Gurevitch, otherwise known as Itche Der Masmid, he learned in his youth in the underground Yeshivos run during the Soviet rule of Russia.
When World War 2 broke out, he stayed with his father in Riga, Latvia, until he managed to escape, then leaving from Levov (now Ukraine) to Israel.
Building a home in Lod, Reb Shmuel dedicated his life to the Central Yeshiva Tomchei Tmimim network in Israel, which has branches in Lod, Kfar Chabad and Kiryat Malachi.
He is survived by his children Rabbi Yitzchak Gurevitch and Rabbi Elazer Gurevitch, both of Crown Heights, Rabbi Menchem Mendel Gurevitch of Kfar Chabad and Yossi Gurevitch. And his daughters Mrs. Ita Chazan of Lod, Mrs. Fruma Teichtel of Natzrath Illit, Mrs. Nechama Tzivin of Kfar Chabad and Mrs. Sima Chazan of Lod.
The funeral will be taking place Wednesday.
