The gravestone that was erected Wednesday for Rabbi Menachem Zev Greenglass OBM in Montreal, Canada, has been engraved with a hand-written line.
Knowlegable Chassidim will probably be able to identify the writing as the Rebbe’s.
The legendary kabbalist and Mashpia’s grandson has comfirmed in an email that the hand-writing was copied from a note the Rebbe sent to Reb Volf.
When Mrs. Esther Greenglass passed away in 5742, her husband sent the Rebbe the text for her gravestone, simply noting that she was the wife of “Reb Menachem Zev Halevi.”
“The Rebbe made an an arrow and added the words “Harav Hachosid Mashpia D’Tomchei Temimim, Hatomim…” before his name,” said his grandson Rabbi Shalom Ber Cohen, a Shliach in Stony Brook, NY.
A copy of that note was posted on a blog called Pirsum Rishon, run by his former student, Rabbi Reuven Leigh, Director of Chabad in Cambridge, England.
“In truth, he was the inspiration behind this blog because he taught me the geshmak of a ksav yad and any inyan that is shayach to Rabboseinu Nesieinu,” Leigh wrote.
“I haven’t posted for a long time, but feel that now is the time to get back in the swing of things. There is so much to say about this great man and I hope over the next few weeks to share with you letters from the Rebbe to him as well as stories and experiences I had with him.”
Thanks for posting all of these articles, he was a great man and talmud chacham, I have heard many amazing stories from my Zaidy. May his neshmah be reunited with the Friedeker Rebbe
