There were two reb yochanans: reb Y ben zakai who lived during the churban, and our reb yochanan who was an amora and lived after the churban.

WAS IT NOT REB YOICHONON WHO WAS SMUGGLED OUT OF YERUSHOLAYIM, AND GREETED ASPASYONUS AS EMPEROR? PERHAPS THIS IS A DIFFERENT REB YOICHONON? IS THIS REB YOICHONON BEN ZAKKAI THE BROTHER IN LAW OF REB SHIMEON BEN LOKISH? WHO LIVED FOR 120 YEARS?

Rabbi Yochanan was born around 180 CE, that is more than a century after the destruction of the Beis Hamikdash.

the rabbi quoted the gemarah that “the begining of the punishment is more significant.” that is why we fast on the 9th. see also the PDF curruclum under the video where you have that peice of gemarah taanis inside.

this was much deeper than usual. a real shuir in gemarah. but i didnot understand the lagic the gemarah gives for Reb Yochanan, why if a fire has no subatsnace does it become your arrow, even though it travels on its own? just because we can’t call it “your property,” does it automotically become “you”?!

Very well presented
It seems that it wasnt explained why we fast on 9th and not on 10th despite all the explanations

Reb Yoichonon

Did not Reb Yoichonon live for 120 years, through the destruction of the second Bais Hamikdosh? So therefore, why did he say if i would have lived then i would have instituded to fast on the 10th of Av?
