Some 300 people attended a Chanukah celebration organized by the European Jewish Community Centre (EJCC), directed by Shliach Rabbi Avi Tawil and his wife Nechama.
Among them were 20 members of the European Parliament, 3 Ambassadors and Androulla Vassiliou, European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth.
The event took place in the President’s Hall of the European Commission’s headquarters in Brussels.
Featured at the celebration was a display of Menorahs hand crafted by students of Jewish schools.
Another exhibition present was of the “Art in All of Us” organization showing children’s artwork of the 192 UN-recognized countries, bringing knowledge and respect for their neighbors in the world.
Michael Leigh, Director General of Enlargement of the European Commission, thanked Rabbi Tawil and the EJCC “for bringing this celebration for the seventh consecutive time in the Commission.”
He added, “We are very pleased that festivals of the Jewish calendar are also marked in our institutions, so that to increase respect, understanding and tolerance between cultures in this union.”
