Chabad @ McGill University in Montreal, Canada, celebrated Chanukah while making history at the University.
On the 1st night of Chanukah, in the pouring rain and freezing temperatures, over 100 students gathered on the campus’ Lower Field for the lighting of an Ice Menorah, the first Menorah lighting in the history of McGill.
Shliach Rabbi Shmuly Weiss lit the Menorah with a full attendance of students, professors and news crews while dodging raindrops and gusts of wind. The Menorah, which was sculpted specifically for the event, stood on the field for the first few days of Chanukah, until the baking of the sunshine caused it to melt away.
At the event, Rabbi Weiss spoke of the uniqueness of the ice Menorah that will melt as he hopes the Lights of Chanukah will help melt away the darkness in the world.
On the 7th night of Chanukah, the Chabad House hosted their legendary Midnight Breakfast to give students an opportunity to get a break from their studies and enjoy some late night kosher food and Chanukah spirit.
Nearly 60 students joined in at 11:00 at night to mingle, enjoy latkes, donuts and some of their breakfast favorites.
