The Crown Heights softball league’s AWS Skullcaps beat the Landmark Funding Red Heifers Tuesday in the final game of the 2010 season.
With both teams playing well, the game turned into a nailbiter which went into extra innings, with the Skullcaps ultimately winning their first championship 6-5.
Some 100 fans watched the game from the bleachers, enjoying hot dogs sponsored by House of Glatt and cheering for each run.
After the initial Skullcaps’ 5-3 lead, the Red Heifers scored 2 runs in the 6th inning to tie the game through the bottom of the eighth, when the Skullcaps scored one run to win the game.
League commissioner Zevi Steinhauser‘s team, the Red Heifers, fought their way from 4th place to the final game, but fell one run short of the win.
“We congratulate the Skullcaps on the win tonight,” he told COLlive after the game. “They played really well, and deserve to be this year’s champions.”
